About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive to our holiday spot on the outskirts of Llangefni – it was one of those journeys that starts off promising but quickly turns into a comedy of errors. We’d piled into the car back in Cheshire with high hopes, me navigating via a dodgy phone signal while my partner drove and the kids bickered over crisps in the back. About halfway across the bridge to Anglesey, disaster struck: a sudden downpour hit, turning the A55 into a skidpan, and I managed to spill an entire thermos of tea all over the passenger footwell. Cue soggy socks, frantic mopping with Costa napkins, and the kids chanting “tea tsunami!” from the rear seats. By the time we crawled off the main road towards Llangefni, we were frazzled, late, and questioning why we hadn’t just stayed home with Netflix.

But oh, pulling up to the property? That was the turnaround we desperately needed. Tucked away in a peaceful rural spot, this well-presented, all ground-floor cottage hit us with instant wow-factor. It’s elegantly styled inside, perfect for our family of four – no stairs to negotiate with tired legs or hyper kids. We tumbled out of the car, still damp and dishevelled, and the key handover from the lovely owner was a breath of fresh air. She chuckled at our tea-soaked tale and pointed us through the gate, promising we’d forget the chaos in no time.

Stepping inside felt like a warm hug. The super-king-size bedroom was ours – pure bliss after that drive – and the double next door kept the kids contained. The kitchen was brilliantly kitted out; we rustled up cheese on toast in minutes, then collapsed around the dining table, giggling about our mishaps. Outside, the superb communal grounds stretched out invitingly – a lush lawn begging for a kickabout and a cosy sitting area where we cracked open a bottle of fizz as the sun dipped low. It’s the sort of place that whispers “relax” without trying too hard.

That first evening, we wandered just a short stroll into Llangefni for fish and chips from a chippy that’s proper Anglesey gold – greasy, golden, and devoured on a bench by the river. The anticipation I’d built up during the drive? Totally worth it. First impressions were spot-on: cosy, convenient, and a million miles from the motorway madness. We even discovered you can book it alongside a couple of neighbouring properties for bigger groups – handy for next time with mates.

Looking back, that arrival kerfuffle was a gentle nudge from the universe: holidays aren’t about flawless journeys, but the joy of arriving somewhere that makes you exhale. A few days pottering around local spots like the pretty paths near Talwrn Bach or a lazy picnic by Llyn Alaw lake reminded me to slow down and savour the simple stuff. If you’re after a rural North Wales escape that feels like home but better, this corner of Anglesey delivers. We left buzzing to return – tea stains and all.
