About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the mainland turned into a comedy of errors thanks to Sat Nav Sally, as I’ve dubbed her. She decided halfway across the Menai Bridge that a cheeky detour through some narrow country lanes was the way to go, leaving me white-knuckling the wheel as branches scraped the sides of the car and the dog, Monty, slobbered all over the windows in protest. By the time we rolled into Rhosneigr, I was frazzled, covered in crisps from a mid-journey snack explosion, and questioning my life choices. But oh, the anticipation bubbled up as we spotted the sea glinting in the distance – that promise of salty air and sandy paws had me grinning despite the chaos.

Pulling up to the small block right in the village heart, I felt an instant lift. It’s a bright, welcoming second-floor apartment, the kind that screams ‘kick off your shoes and stay a while’. We hauled our bags up the stairs – another minor mishap when my other half, Dave, dropped the cool bag, sending yoghurts rolling like escaped bowling balls – but stepping into apartment number 14 made it all worthwhile. The large, modern hallway hit us first, with a handy writing desk that I immediately claimed for my morning coffee scribbles. It’s all seaside-themed without being naff, furnished to a high standard that feels cosy yet spacious for the four of us (plus Monty and his mate, Bella, who were already sniffing out heaven).

The first impressions? Bloody marvellous, if you’ll pardon my enthusiasm. Those two big bedrooms are absolute stars – one with stunning sea views that had me glued to the window, watching waves crash on the beach just a stone’s throw away, and the other overlooking the rooftops of Rhosneigr’s multi-coloured buildings, all quaint and idyllic. We dumped the bags and headed straight out for a stroll to the all-year-round dog-friendly sands at Maelog Lake beach. The dogs went bonkers, chasing waves while we wandered hand-in-hand, the mishaps of the journey melting away like ice cream on a hot day. Back for a potter around the village, we popped into one of the cracking little eateries for fish and chips – fresh, greasy perfection wrapped in paper, eaten on a bench with gulls eyeing us jealously.

That evening, lounging in the well-equipped living space with views twinkling under the stars, I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Here I was, after a day of travel farcical enough for a sitcom, in this gem of a spot feeling utterly content. Anglesey’s got that magic – unpretentious, breathtaking, and just the right side of relaxed. The chaos of arrival only made the welcome sweeter; sometimes life’s little hiccups are the best setup for pure bliss. If you’re after a holiday that blends beach bums, dog walks, and decent pub grub without the hassle, this is your spot. We’re already plotting a return – Sat Nav Sally permitting!
