About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive to Cemaes Bay – our sat-nav decided to throw a proper wobbly just as we hit the A55, rerouting us down some winding single-track lane that had me white-knuckling the wheel while my other half clutched the crisps like a lifeline. We’d left Manchester full of beans, buzzing about a cheeky seaside getaway, but by the time we spotted the sea glinting through the hedges, we were frazzled. A rogue sheep ambled out right in front of us, forcing an emergency stop that sent our picnic sandwiches flying into the footwell. Laugh? We howled, picking ham off the dashboard. Still, as we rolled into the free public car park by the bay – dead handy, that – the anticipation kicked in. There it was, our little first-floor apartment perched right on the coast, all inviting with its seaside charm. Perfect for us two, escaping the daily grind.

Climbing the stairs (note to self: pack lighter next time), we tumbled through the door, bags everywhere, and blimey, what a tonic. The open-plan living space hit us like a warm hug – bright, tasteful, with everything you could want. We flopped straight onto those plush leather sofas in the colourful sitting area, kicking off our shoes amid the chaos of unpacking. I flicked on the telly for a rom-com while she sorted the kettle – proper home-from-home vibes, even with our arrival resembling a sitcom scene. First impressions? Spot on. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the bay’s twinkling waves, and you could practically taste the salt air. We cracked open a bottle of fizz to celebrate surviving the journey, toasting to no more sheep standoffs.

That evening, we wandered down to Cemaes Beach, just a stone’s throw away – golden sands, gentle waves lapping, and not a soul in sight bar a few dog-walkers. We paddled about, giggling like kids, before grabbing fish and chips from the village chippy. Sat on a bench overlooking the harbour, munching away as the sun dipped low – pure magic. Next morning, still buzzing from those cracking first impressions, we mooched over to nearby Traeth Carreg Adrian, another stunner of a beach for a spot of pebble-skipping and rockpool poking. The area’s a gem for couples like us – quiet coves, coastal paths begging to be strolled hand-in-hand, and that endless sea view from the apartment pulling you back for lazy afternoons.

Reflecting on it now, that messy arrival was the best icebreaker. It reminded me how the daft mishaps make the good bits shine brighter – no polished perfection, just us, the coast, and a sofa that felt like it was made for sinking into. Anglesey’s got this unpretentious pull; Cemaes Bay especially, with its easy beaches and that sense of slipping off the map. We didn’t venture far – didn’t need to. Those first 24 hours set the tone: chaotic joy turning into proper relaxation. If you’re after a seaside bolt-hole that delivers big on first glances, this is it. Can’t wait to go back – minus the flying sarnies, mind.
