About The Hayloft.

Llanfechell sits at Anglesey’s northern tip in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 1.5 miles from Cemaes Bay. Named after the nearby 12th-century Mechell Church, where St Mechell is reportedly buried, it attracts geologists and archaeologists with Mechell Mountain’s rock formations and ancient monuments—some of the world’s oldest. Parys Mountain’s lunar copper mines are 7 miles away. Nearby Cemaes Bay offers a sandy beach, grassy cliffs, safe swimming, a natural harbour, shops and three pubs—perfect for families.

About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the mainland turned into a right old faff when the sat-nav decided to play silly buggers just as we crossed the bridge. We ended up looping around some narrow lanes near Llanfechell, with me clutching the map app on my phone like it was a lifeline, while my other half muttered about trusting technology less. By the time we spotted the countryside views overlooking the Isle of Anglesey, hearts were racing a bit, and we were both starving after skipping lunch. Still, that anticipation bubbled up – you know that fizzy excitement of finally arriving somewhere special after a bit of chaos?

Pulling into the designated parking spot felt like victory. It’s a first-floor home, up a short set of stairs, and as we lugged our bags up, the mishaps kept coming: I bashed my knee on the doorframe in my haste, letting out a yelp that echoed comically through the quiet. Laughing it off, we stepped inside and – blimey – were we wowed. The open-plan living space hit us like a warm hug: sleek kitchen gleaming with every gadget you’d need, a cosy dining spot for two, and that sumptuous sofa begging us to flop down. Best bit? The double-sided woodburning stove, just waiting for a chilly evening crackle. It’s all chic and boutique-style, with countryside vistas stretching out the windows – proper romantic North Wales magic without a whiff of pretension.

We wasted no time settling in. Popped the kettle on for a proper cuppa (none of your weak teabag nonsense), then cracked open a bottle of wine while rustling up pasta in the well-equipped kitchen. The enclosed rear garden was the real star, though – that private hot tub steaming away under the stars. After our arrival palaver, sinking into it with a sigh was pure bliss, bubbles fizzing around us as the day’s stresses melted. We gazed out at the rolling fields, sheep dotting the landscape like fluffy punctuation marks, and chatted about nothing and everything.

Next morning, first impressions held strong. A gentle stroll down to Llanfechell’s local shop for fresh bread and Welsh cakes – nothing fancy, just that authentic village vibe. We wandered nearby paths, spotting buzzards wheeling overhead and wildflowers nodding in the breeze, before heading to the coast at Bull Bay, barely a few miles off. The sea air was bracing, waves crashing on pebbly shores, and we picnicked on the beach, toes in the sand, feeling miles away from real life.

Looking back, that messy arrival was a blessing in disguise. It made the peace hit harder, you know? In our rush, we’d almost overlooked how perfectly this spot suited us – luxurious yet laid-back, ideal for recharging. I caught myself grinning like an idiot, thinking how daft it is that we don’t do this more often. If you’re after a romantic getaway with countryside charm and hot tub heaven, this corner of Anglesey’s your spot. We’re already plotting a return – minus the sat-nav drama, hopefully.
