About Anglesey
I finally made it to Anglesey after what felt like the world's longest drive from Manchester, complete with a classic sat-nav fail that had me looping around Bangor for twenty minutes. Picture this: me, swearing under my breath (quietly, mind), while the rain lashed the windscreen and the kids in the back seat started a chorus of "are we there yet?" But as soon as we crossed the Menai Bridge, with the sea sparkling on both sides, all that stress melted away. I could already feel the holiday vibe kicking in – that proper Welsh welcome, you know?

Pulling up to our spot in the heart of Rhosneigr, I was buzzing with anticipation. What if it was a letdown after the photos? No chance. This beautifully presented first-floor apartment was even better than promised – right in the thick of it, just a stone's throw from the beach, with local restaurants, cafes and shops practically on the doorstep. It's got this bright, welcoming feel that screams "relax, you've earned it." Spacious inside without losing that cosy, heart-warming charm, all plush furnishings and contemporary bits that make settling in a doddle. And being smack in the centre means dog-friendly beaches are a five-minute wander away, plus loads of eateries if you fancy a night off cooking.

But honestly, the joy of the whole trip was doing bugger all – in the best possible way. We arrived mid-afternoon, dumped the bags, and straight into lazy mode. The private garden out back became our haven – a sunny patch with loungers that begged for feet-up time. I'd crack open a book (trying to finish that Philip Pullman I'd been lugging around for months), while the other half dozed with a cuppa, and the dog chased shadows. No grand plans, no ticking off lists of "must-sees." Just the sound of waves in the distance and gulls overhead.

Mornings were pure bliss: potter down to the beach at low tide for a gentle stroll along Traeth Crigyll – those wide, sandy stretches where you can walk for ages without seeing a soul. Back for elevenses at one of the cafes nearby, maybe a bacon butty from the local spot, then flop in the garden again. Afternoons blurred into reading marathons, interspersed with the odd dip in the sea if the weather played ball (it mostly did, bar one blustery day). Evenings? A takeaway from the chippy down the road, eaten picnic-style outside as the sun dipped low.

There was this one moment, sat there with my book forgotten on my lap, watching the clouds scoot across the sky, when it hit me: I've spent so long rushing about life that I'd forgotten how good it feels to just... stop. No emails pinging, no deadlines looming. Just me, breathing in that salty air, feeling properly recharged. Gentle self-reflection over a glass of wine – who knew slowing down could be this brilliant?

We barely strayed beyond a couple of miles – a pub lunch at the Red Sailor one day, a mooch around the village shops for ice creams another. Rhosneigr's got that perfect laid-back charm, all wild coastline and friendly locals, without any need for epic hikes or tourist traps. Leaving felt brutal; I could've stayed forever in that garden bubble. If you're after a holiday that's all about unwinding North Wales style, this is the ticket. Proper tonic for the soul.
