About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the mainland turned into a proper comedy of errors. Sat-nav decided to play silly buggers just as we hit the A55, rerouting us down some winding back lane that had me white-knuckling the wheel while the dog, Monty, slobbered all over the back window in excitement. Then, to top it off, we had a minor puncture scare near Gaerwen – turned out to be nothing, but it had us pulling over in the rain, faffing about with the spare tyre kit like a pair of Keystone Cops. By the time we crossed the bridge to the island, I was knackered, dreaming of nothing but kicking off my shoes and cracking open a cold one.

But oh, pulling into that tranquil little village of Rhosneigr? Instant mood-lifter. The chaos melted away as we trundled past those endless stretches of golden sand, the sea sparkling like it was showing off just for us. We found the place tucked away in this perfect spot, a cosy ground-floor apartment that screamed ‘relax, you’ve arrived’. First impressions? Bloody brilliant – or rather, spot on for a couple like us with our daft spaniel in tow. Stepping inside felt like a warm hug; it’s got this unpretentious charm, all styled just right for unwinding. That stylish corner sofa? We collapsed onto it straight away, Monty curling up at our feet while we flicked on the Smart TV to catch up on some rubbish telly. Pure bliss after the road drama.

The kitchen’s a gem too – quaint but kitted out properly, so we rustled up pasta with whatever we’d grabbed from the Co-op in the village (pro tip: stock up there on arrival, it’s got everything). Sat at the dining table with a chilled bottle of fizz, toasting our survival of the journey, it was like the mishaps had been worth it. Honestly, staring out at those incredible seascapes through the windows, I had a proper moment of reflection – when did life get so hectic that a simple drive turns into an adventure? Needed this, we did.

Next morning, still buzzing from the great first vibes, we wandered down to Traeth Llydan beach, right on the doorstep – Monty went mental chasing waves, and we strolled hand-in-hand, barely another soul about. Popped into the village for fish and chips from one of the takeaways later; nothing fancy, but sat on the sand munching them, it tasted like heaven. Even nipped over to the little Pilots Cove beach for a paddle – water was bracing, mind, but that’s Anglesey for you. Back at the flat, evenings were for cosying up, cooking simple suppers, and letting the sea sounds lull us. No grand plans, just proper downtime.

If you’re after a chilled escape with your other half and the pooch, this is it. Those arrival antics? They only made the peace that followed sweeter. Can’t wait to go back – minus the sat-nav shenanigans, hopefully.
