About Anglesey
The 2 Bed Cottage sat just a short stroll from the beach, its whitewashed walls catching the last of the sun and its little garden gate half-hidden by a tangle of late roses. Inside it felt instantly welcoming: the sort of place where you kick off your shoes without thinking twice. A faint smell of woodsmoke lingered from the previous guests, and the kettle was already filled, as though someone had guessed we’d need tea before unpacking. October had brought a quiet hush to the coast. The summer crowds had long gone, leaving the shoreline to locals walking their dogs and the occasional brave swimmer. We stepped out after our cuppa to catch the last of the light and found the tide far out, the wet sand reflecting a sky streaked with pink and slate. A light breeze carried the clean, salty scent of the Irish Sea, and for once there was no queue for the best spot to watch the sunset. Back at the cottage the heating had kicked in, taking the edge off the evening chill. We cooked a simple supper using what we’d picked up in town—local sausages and a crusty loaf—and ate it at the little table by the window. Outside, the sky deepened to navy and the first stars appeared above the rooftops. It felt oddly luxurious to have the whole stretch of beach to ourselves at this time of year; no ice-cream vans, no queues for the car park, just the rhythmic hush of waves and the occasional call of a curlew. I caught myself smiling at how quickly the small mishap on the lane had faded. The wrong turn had actually bought us the best light of the day, and the cottage’s cosy corners seemed made for exactly this sort of unhurried evening. Autumn on Anglesey, it turns out, doesn’t shout for attention; it simply offers you a quieter, softer version of the coast that somehow feels more yours. |
