About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Treaddur Bay – we’d packed the car to bursting with wellies, waterproofs, and enough snacks to feed a small army, only for the sat-nav to chuck us into a massive traffic jam just past Bangor. Turned out some sheep had decided the A55 was their personal catwalk, and there we were, inching along with the kids chanting “are we there yet?” from the back. By the time we rolled up, I was frazzled, but honestly, that first glimpse of the place melted it all away. Nestled right in the heart of Treaddur Bay, this detached villa – fresh off a full 2024 reno to a sleek, modern vibe – looked like a proper home from home, perfect for our rabble of family and mates, dogs included. Seven bedrooms, ground-floor doubles with an en-suite, bunks for the little ones, and bathrooms galore with those massive walk-in showers? Spot on. And just a cheeky stroll to that Blue Flag beach. Anticipation levels: sky-high.

First morning, the sun was cracking the flags – rare as hen’s teeth in Wales, mind – so we laced up and headed straight out for a coastal ramble along the bay. Treaddur’s paths are brilliant, winding past those glassy turquoise waters where you can spot seals bobbing about if you’re lucky. We clambered over rocks, skimmed stones, and let the dogs go mental chasing waves. Felt like we’d cracked the holiday code. But oh, British weather, you sneaky sod. By lunch, the sky turned proper moody, and we were dodging horizontal rain on a brisk hike up to the headland. Plans for a long beach plod? Scrubbed. Instead, we pivoted to the cliff paths – still stunning, mind, with views over Porth Dafarch that make you forget you’re soaked to the skin. The wind whipped us about like kites, and I nearly lost my hat to the Irish Sea, which had the kids in stitches.

Next day, grey and drizzly from the off, but we’re not quitters. Wrapped up like Arctic explorers, we tackled the circular walk around the bay itself – proper family affair, grandparents huffing along gamely while the dogs dragged us forward. Muddy puddles galore, but that’s half the fun, innit? Stopped for fish and chips from the van near the beach, eaten huddled under a brolly, laughing about how we’d look like drowned rats. Afternoon brought a sneaky sunbeam, so we extended it inland a tad, looping through those quiet lanes to the edge of Newlands, where the gorse was blooming yellow despite the gloom. Legs aching, but buzzing.

Looking back, those weather flips were the making of it – forced us to embrace the chaos, swap grand epics for pint-sized adventures that stuck in the memory. One evening, as the rain lashed the windows and we sprawled in the lounge with hot choccies, I caught myself thinking: this is proper living, isn’t it? No filters, just us versus the elements. Treaddur Bay’s walks delivered every time – sun-kissed highs, wild wet lows, and that unbeatable Anglesey magic. Can’t wait to go back.
