About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey that crisp autumn morning – the leaves turning all those fiery shades of orange and red along the A55, making the whole journey feel like a proper scenic postcard. Me and the missus had been buzzing with anticipation for weeks, dreaming of cosy evenings by the fire as the days got shorter. But typical me, I took a wrong turn just past Bangor, ending up on some narrow lane that had me white-knuckling the wheel through a sudden downpour. “This is it, we’re lost in Wales forever,” I joked, but we laughed it off and plugged the postcode back in. Twenty minutes later, we pulled up to this spacious, contemporary holiday home in the lovely seaside spot of Rhosneigr, just a short walk from the beach. First impressions? Spot on. The place looked warm and inviting against the grey skies, with those big windows promising views of the moody Irish Sea.

Autumn in Anglesey is pure magic, isn’t it? None of that summer scrum – just crisp air that nips at your cheeks and turns every breath into a misty puff. We arrived mid-October, and the season had painted everything in soft golds and rusts, with the wind whipping up waves that crashed dramatically on the shore. Our first evening, we cracked open a bottle of red and watched the sunset from the lounge – it dipped low over the sea, streaking the sky pink before the chill set in proper. That’s when you really appreciate a holiday home like this: plenty of space to spread out, a cracking wood burner that we got roaring in no time, and a kitchen kitted out for hearty suppers. I rustled up a stew with local spuds and lamb from the Rhosneigr farm shop – nothing fancy, but it hit the spot after our little road drama.

Next day, we wrapped up warm and strolled down to Traeth Llydan beach, all but deserted bar a few dog walkers braving the breeze. The sand was cool underfoot, scattered with seashells and seaweed from the recent storms, and the dunes glowed in the low golden light. We crunched through fallen leaves on the path back, feeling that gentle tug of seasonal melancholy – you know, how autumn makes you pause and think about life’s simple joys. I caught myself reflecting on how we’d let work swallow us up lately; this trip was our reset button. Lightened my mood no end.

We didn’t stray far – popped into the village for pasties from the bakery, still steaming hot, and wandered along the coastal path towards Llanfaelog, where the bracken was turning that gorgeous coppery hue. Evenings were for board games by the fire, with the sound of rain pattering on the windows – proper hygge, Welsh-style. One hilarious moment: I tried flying the drone from the garden for some aerial shots of the fiery treetops, but a gust snatched it, sending it wobbling like a drunk seagull. Retrieved it unscathed, mind, and we’ve got the footage to prove it was worth the panic.

By the time we packed up, the shorter days had us appreciating every ray of sun, and the cool nights made those lazy mornings in bed all the sweeter. Anglesey in autumn? It’s understated brilliance – wild, peaceful, and just the tonic for the soul. We’re already plotting a return next year.
