About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – we’d packed the car to the gills with wellies, waterproofs, and enough crisps to last a siege, only for the sat-nav to chuck us into a massive traffic jam just past Bangor. Some cheeky diversion sign had us crawling along at snail’s pace, and I was convinced we’d miss the best of the day. But once we crossed the Menai Bridge, with the sea sparkling on both sides, all that stress melted away. Anglesey’s got this magical pull, doesn’t it? I was buzzing with anticipation, dreaming of those epic coastal paths we’d been banging on about for months.

Pulling up to this striking white-washed holiday home, right on the doorstep of Amlwch, it was love at first sight. A paved pathway wound through a beautifully maintained front garden, up a few stone steps into a charming hallway perfect for dumping sandy boots. Inside, the wooden parquet flooring led straight to a sitting room that screamed cosy heaven: two plush velour sofas begging you to flop down, loads of natural light pouring through the bay window, and that rustic woodburning stove ready to chase off any chill. It felt like the perfect launchpad for our walking adventures – contemporary vibes with a nod to the old coastal charm.

First morning, the weather gods smiled: blue skies, a gentle breeze off the Irish Sea. We laced up and headed out for a cracking hike along the Anglesey Coastal Path, just minutes from the door. That stretch towards Bull Bay is pure bliss – rugged cliffs plunging into turquoise waves, gulls wheeling overhead, and wildflowers nodding in the sun. We paused for ages at a little cove, skimmin’ stones and pretending we were explorers. Felt like we’d stepped into a postcard. Lunch was a scran in Amlwch – fish and chips from a harbourside spot, eaten on a bench with salt in the air.

But oh, the British weather, eh? Next day, it turned biblical – horizontal rain lashing in from the north, wind howling like a banshee. Our grand plan for a long trek to Point Lynas? Scrapped. Instead, we embraced the madness with a proper wet-weather stomp around Amlwch Port. Layers upon layers, hoods up, laughing as we splashed through puddles deeper than my wellies. The harbour was moody and dramatic, waves crashing against the breakwater, and we spotted seals bobbing about, looking smugger than us. It was grim, but brilliant – that raw, elemental Anglesey vibe you can’t get anywhere else.

By day three, the sun peeked out again, and we nailed a shorter loop back towards the coast from the house, weaving through dunes and past hidden beaches. My mates powered on ahead, but I lagged a bit, huffing up the hills. Pausing for breath, I had one of those moments – you know, staring out at the endless sea, thinking how daft it is to let work grinds you down when places like this exist. A proper reset.

We clocked miles of paths, from sun-drenched clifftops to rain-soaked slogs, and every one shifted our plans in the best way. That holiday home was spot-on for it all – dry socks waiting, stove crackling. If you’re chasing walks that mix triumph and tantrums, Anglesey’s your spot. Can’t wait to go back.
