About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the mainland turned into a proper comedy of errors. Sat-nav decided to play silly buggers just as we crossed the Menai Suspension Bridge, rerouting us down some narrow lane that had me white-knuckling the wheel while the kids in the back moaned about needing the loo. Then, calamity: one of the bags toppled in the boot, spilling crisps and wellies everywhere. By the time we pulled up, I was frazzled, covered in crisp crumbs, and questioning why we hadn’t just stayed home with a Deliveroo and Netflix.

But oh, the anticipation had been building all week – visions of salty sea air, lazy evenings bubbling in a hot tub, and no emails pinging at me. We’d booked this cracking six-bedroom place right on Ynys Faelog, perched near Menai Bridge with killer views across the Menai Strait. It’s the sort of stylish pad that screams “group getaway heaven,” sleeping up to twelve of us without anyone having to bunk on the sofa. Five parking spots? Bliss, especially after our arrival circus. We clambered up the steps, still giggling about the boot fiasco, and stepped into this open-plan living space that hit us like a breath of fresh Welsh air – flooded with light, sleek as you like, with all the mod cons gleaming.

First impressions? Bloody marvellous, if you’ll pardon my enthusiasm. The kitchen was a dream for rustling up a feast – I was straight in there chopping veg for a massive pasta bake while the others claimed bedrooms (flexible setups meant no squabbles). That lofty dining table begged for storytelling sessions, and the Smart TV was primed for footie or a cheesy film. But the real showstopper? Stepping out onto the private balcony, hot tub steaming away, with the strait sparkling below. You could see Beaumaris pier twinkling in the distance, Bangor just a hop away, and the shoreline practically at our feet. It was like the house was wrapping us in a big hug, saying, “Forget the drive, you’ve arrived.”

We wasted no time dipping toes in the hot tub as the sun dipped, sipping fizz and watching seals bob about – proper magic. A cheeky stroll to Menai Bridge later that evening sorted fish and chips from a local spot, devoured back on the balcony with the kids declaring it the best holiday ever. Me? I had a quiet moment staring out at the water, reflecting on how these little escapes remind you life’s too short for perfect plans. The mishaps fade, but spots like this? They stick. If you’re rounding up the clan for Anglesey, hunt down a gem like this – it’ll turn chaos into cherished memories faster than you can say “pass the ketchup.”
