I finally made it to this cracking little holiday cottage in Barry, just 20 minutes from Cardiff centre, after what felt like the most chaotic drive down from the Midlands. Later, I cracked open a cold one on the terrace, gazing at those Vale hills turning golden in the evening light. I rock up in a flap, half-convinced the holiday's doomed, and within an hour I'm utterly smitten.
