About Conway
I’ll never forget the drive up to Conway Valley last month – me behind the wheel, sat-nav chirping away, and my partner dozing in the passenger seat with a half-eaten pasty crumbling on his lap. We’d set off from Manchester full of beans, dreaming of castle-topped adventures, but about halfway in, disaster struck: a rogue sheep decided to photobomb the A55, slamming on the brakes for the whole flock to amble across like they owned the road. Cue 20 minutes of honking and me muttering about Welsh woolly roadblocks. Still, by the time we trundled into Ty’n-y-Groes, the sun was dipping low, painting the hills gold, and all that pent-up arrival buzz melted into a massive grin. There it was – this luxurious glamping pod, one of a neat row of identical little gems, perfect for us two to dip into the Conway Valley without losing our bubble of privacy.

First impressions? Spot on. Tucked just a mile from the River Conway’s gentle banks, it felt like our own secret nook. We dumped the bags, cracked open a bottle of local cider, and just... exhaled. No grand plans, you see – this trip was all about doing bugger all, and boy, did it deliver. Mornings kicked off lazy as you like, lounging in the pod’s cosy setup with a brew and a book. I’d lose hours flicking through a dog-eared thriller, feet up, while birdsong filtered in from the garden. Speaking of which, that garden – oh, it’s a proper suntrap. We’d sprawl on the chairs with flasks of tea, watching clouds drift over the valley, occasionally spotting a heron flapping along the river path. It’s so close you could wander that scenic trail to Conway town in under an hour if you fancied, but why rush? Four miles of medieval magic – that UNESCO-listed castle, the quay with its bobbing boats and fresh crab stalls – all tempting, sure, but we saved our energy for napping.

One afternoon, we did muster the effort for Conway Morfa Beach, a quick 5.5-mile hop down the road. Sandy bliss, that place – we poked about for sea glass, admired the views across to Puffin Island, and flopped on the dunes with sandwiches. Back at the pod, it was straight into pyjamas for garden barbecues (minimal effort, maximum charred sausages) and stargazing from the loungers. No itineraries, no alarms – just the joy of slowing right down. I had this gentle moment of self-reflection one evening, sipping wine as the sun set: when did life get so frantic? Here, with nothing but the rustle of leaves and my fella’s snores, it hit me – sometimes the best holiday is the one where you achieve precisely nowt and feel utterly brilliant for it.

We left fatter, happier, and already plotting a return. If you’re after a couples’ escape that’s equal parts private pod luxury and valley serenity, this is your spot. Proper restorative stuff.
