About Conway
I’ll never forget the drive up to Llandudno – what was meant to be a straightforward jaunt from Manchester turned into a proper comedy of errors. Sat-nav decided to play silly buggers halfway through, rerouting us down some winding back lane that had more sheep than tarmac. Then, just as we crested the hill with Conway Castle looming all majestic in the distance, we hit a snarl of traffic from a classic car rally chugging through town. By the time we pulled up to our 2nd floor apartment, right in the heart of Llandudno, I was frazzled, parched, and dreaming of a cuppa. Little did we know, that chaotic arrival was about to melt away into one of the best first impressions of any holiday let I’ve had.

Stumbling up the stairs with our bags – note to self: pack lighter next time – we unlocked the door and were hit with this burst of light and warmth that just screamed “welcome home.” It’s a bright, thoughtfully renovated spot perfect for two, with a spacious double bedroom that promised proper kip after days out, and a sleek shower room that looked like it meant business. But the real star? That open-plan living space with the kitchen and dining area. Massive windows let in all that North Wales sunshine, bouncing off modern appliances that were spotless and begging to be used. We dumped our stuff on the inviting seating area, flicked on the TV, and connected to the WiFi – bliss after the road rage.

I couldn’t stop grinning as we unpacked; the anticipation on the drive had built up this knot of excitement, wondering if it’d live up to the pics, and blimey, it exceeded it. A quick wander out – local shops and those cracking traditional pubs just a short stroll away – and we were grabbing fish and chips from a chippy that smelled like heaven. Sat on the balcony (well, peeking from the window, really) munching away, watching the promenade buzz below, I had one of those gentle moments of reflection. Here I was, mid-forties, still getting faffed by a sat-nav, yet landing in this cosy gem that felt like a hug. Why do I always overthink these trips? This one was spot on from the off.

Next morning, we ambled down to the pier – all candy floss and donkey rides – then up the tramway to the Great Orme for those jaw-dropping views over the bay. Afternoon tea in a tearoom overlooking the beach, followed by a pint in a pub where the locals swapped stories about the castle’s ghosts. Back at the flat, cooking up a storm in that ace kitchen, lounging with a Netflix binge – it was pure relaxation. The chaos of arrival? Forgotten already. If you’re after a welcoming base to explore Conway’s charms without the hassle, this is it. Made me vow to return, mishaps and all.
