About Conway
I’ll never forget the drive up to Conway – or rather, the near-disaster that kicked off our family holiday. We’d piled into the car from Manchester, kids buzzing in the back with crisps and iPads, me navigating via a dodgy phone signal. About halfway, just past Colwyn Bay, the heavens opened and I took a wrong turn onto some narrow lane that looked more like a sheep track. Cue mild panic as we splashed through puddles, the satnav chirping “recalculating” like a smug know-it-all. But honestly, it added to the fun – we laughed it off over emergency pasties from a roadside van, and by the time Llandudno’s twinkling lights came into view, the anticipation was electric. I could already picture us unwinding after months of school runs and deadlines.

Pulling up to our spot in the heart of Llandudno’s town centre felt like stumbling into a hug from an old mate. This wonderful Victorian two-storey apartment, nestled right in the seaside resort, hit us with great first impressions from the off. The far-reaching views across the town from the windows were a proper treat, and with the beach just a five-minute stroll away, we were grinning like idiots. Stepping inside this charming large apartment, we were greeted by a delightful welcome pack – Welsh cakes still warm-ish, fresh milk, and a bottle of wine that whispered “relax, you’ve earned this”. It was wonderfully appointed, all cosy with leather sofas begging for a family pile-in, and that electric fire flickering away, perfect for chilly evenings.

We settled in quick, the high street practically on our doorstep pulling us out for lazy wanders. First morning, we ambled down to the promenade, fish and chips in hand from a no-frills chippy – the kids chased seagulls while we scoffed ours on the pebble beach, salt spray in our hair. Llandudno’s pier became our playground; arcade games had the little ones shrieking with joy (and me out of a few quid), followed by ice creams that dripped faster than the Welsh drizzle. Back at the flat, cottage life chaos reigned supreme – one evening, movie night turned into a popcorn fight on those plush sofas, the fire crackling as we binge-watched old Disney flicks. I caught myself chuckling at the mess, thinking how these simple daft moments are what we crave after the daily grind. Who needs fancy holidays when you’ve got this?

Afternoons meant pottering along the high street’s independent shops – Welsh woollies for Nan, quirky souvenirs that’ll gather dust but spark smiles. We hit a couple of cosy pubs for pie and pints (orange juice for the nippers), eavesdropping on locals nattering about the weather. One rainy spell had us curling up with board games, the views misted over but still magical. It was pure relaxed family bliss – no schedules, just us lot making memories amid the joyful disorder of spilled milk (thankfully, we had that welcome pack spare) and sandy towels.

Reflecting now, that little driving mishap was the perfect opener; it reminded me holidays aren’t about perfection, but these unhurried pockets of togetherness. Llandudno worked its charm on us – we left knackered, happy, and already plotting a return. If you’re after a proper family breather, this is the spot.
