About Conway
I’ll never forget the drive up to Deganwy last month – what was meant to be a straightforward jaunt from Manchester turned into a comedy of errors. Sat-nav insisted on taking us through some winding back lanes that felt like they hadn’t seen tarmac since the war, and just as we hit the A55, a sudden downpour turned the windscreen into a waterfall. I was wiping it frantically with a half-empty bottle of screenwash while my other half clutched the map app like it was a lifeline. “Are we even in Wales yet?” she groaned, as we spluttered into a layby for an emergency pasty from a service station. By the time we crested the hill overlooking the River Conway estuary, we were knackered, windswept, and starving – but oh, the anticipation bubbled up anyway. There it was, twinkling in the late afternoon light: our ground floor apartment, all cosy and inviting against that dramatic seascape.

Pulling up was pure chaos. I reversed into the tiniest parking spot known to man, clipping the wing mirror on a rogue wheelie bin in the process. “Great start, genius,” I muttered to myself, hopping out to untangle the mess while rain dripped down my neck. But as we fumbled with the key safe – third try’s the charm after two dud codes – the door swung open to the most smashing first impression. Overlooking the mouth of the estuary with views stretching towards Conway’s castle silhouette, this place was a seaside dream. Beautifully decorated in blues, greys, and sandy tones that screamed beachy bliss, it felt like stepping into a hug from the coast itself. Coastal prints dotted the walls, and the open-plan living space unfolded before us: a slick kitchen packed with everything for knocking up a feast, flowing into a modern dining setup perfect for lazy suppers.

We dumped the bags and beelined for the windows – those views! Seals bobbing in the water, boats chugging out towards the bay, and Conway town nestling there like a postcard. First impressions? Spot on. It’s ideal for a couple like us, or even a small family, with space that’s just right without feeling echoey. We cracked open a bottle of fizz (salvaged from the car boot amid the downpour debris) and just soaked it in, the mishaps of the journey melting away. That evening, we wandered a quick five-minute stroll to Deganwy’s quay, grabbing fish and chips from a chippy that smelled like heaven, then ambled back as the sun dipped behind the hills.

Looking back, that bumpy arrival was a right laugh – a gentle nudge that holidays aren’t about perfection, but those unexpected grins along the way. We spent the next days pottering to Conway’s marina for coffee, hiking the easy paths along the estuary for birdwatching (spotted oystercatchers, no less), and even a cheeky round at the local crazy golf course where I hilariously lost to a seagull-watching toddler. The apartment was our perfect base – comfy, stylish, and with a balcony that caught every sunrise. If you’re after North Wales charm without the hassle, this corner of Deganwy delivers. Can’t wait to go back.
