About Bryn Derw Holiday Cottage.

The village of Eglwysbach is in the wonderful Conway Valley, which is renowned for its beautiful countryside, scenic walks and the world famous Bodnant Gardens. Nearby Conway, a World Heritage Site, is one of Britain's most unspoiled historic towns. A true medieval gem, the town is dominated by a splendid castle and completely enclosed by its well-preserved town walls - fortified with 21 towers and three gateways, the walls form an almost unbroken shield around the old town.

About Conway
I’ll never forget the drive up to our holiday house near Eglwysbach – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the A55 turned into a comedy of errors thanks to my hopeless sense of direction. Sat nav insisted we take a sneaky left into what looked like a farmer’s driveway, and before I knew it, we were bogged down in a muddy lane, the car’s tyres spinning like they were auditioning for a rally. My other half was fuming, kids in the back chanting “Are we there yet?” for the umpteenth time, and I’m there pretending it’s all part of the adventure. Twenty minutes and a lot of reversing later, we finally spotted the turning – phew!

Pulling up, though, all that arrival chaos melted away. There it was, this spacious detached house tucked into the Conway Valley, surrounded by rolling grazing fields and, get this, an alpaca enclosure right next door. I half-expected them to pop over for a welcoming committee. The anticipation had been building all week – visions of kicking back with valley views – and the first impressions? Spot on. Stepping into the large central hallway, my eyes were immediately pulled past the dining area to those far-reaching rural vistas beyond the windows. It was like the house was showing off its best feature straight away.

We dumped the bags and wandered into the sitting room – stylish, welcoming, with a woodburning stove just begging to be lit later. Double doors swung open to a gorgeous conservatory, panoramic views everywhere, and direct access to the patio and garden. Blimey, it felt like we’d stumbled into a proper treat. The kids bolted straight out to gawp at the alpacas (who stared back with those fluffy, judgemental faces), while I clocked the high-quality kitchen – granite worktops, central island, the lot. Perfect for knocking up a fry-up without feeling like I’m in a caravan.

That first evening, we cracked open the hot tub on the patio – luxurious doesn’t even cover it, bubbling away under the stars with views stretching out over the fields. Pure bliss after the road rage. We nipped down to Eglwysbach village, just a mile away, for a pint at the local pub – proper North Wales hospitality, chatting with regulars about the best walks. Next day, we wandered the valley paths, spotting sheep everywhere, and even tried spotting the alpacas from afar without disturbing them. Simple stuff, but dead relaxing.

Looking back, that mishap on arrival was a right laugh, wasn’t it? Taught me to double-check the map next time instead of trusting tech. But honestly, it made the house feel even more like a sanctuary. First impressions stuck – cosy, stunning views, and that hot tub sealing the deal. If you’re after a Conway Valley escape, this is the spot. We’re already plotting a return.
