About Gower Peninsula
I finally made it to the Gower Peninsula after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive from Swansea. Picture this: I'm trundling along the coast road in our little hatchback, dog in the back whining for a wee, and me trying to juggle sat-nav directions with a half-eaten pasty from the services. Then, disaster strikes – a massive tractor decides to hog the narrow lane just as we're rounding the bend towards Limeslade Bay. I end up reversing into a hedge (thankfully just a scratch on the bumper), heart pounding, while the farmer gives me a cheery wave like it's all part of the fun. Classic me, turning a scenic 20-minute jaunt into a minor episode of Top Gear.

By the time we pulled up outside the third-floor apartment, I was knackered but buzzing with that holiday anticipation – you know, the bit where you imagine lounging with sea views and zero emails. And blimey, first impressions? Spot on. It's this newly renovated, pet-friendly one-bed gem right on the coast road, next to the entrance of the coastal path. We hauled our bags up the stairs (note to self: pack lighter next time), flung open the door, and there it was – uninterrupted views over Limeslade Bay stretching out like a postcard. The sun was dipping low, turning the water all golden, and our spaniel immediately claimed the sofa as his throne.

We dumped the bags and headed straight out for a nose around. The coastal path starts literally at the doorstep, so a quick 20-minute wander took us to Rotherslade Bay. Perfect timing for Sunday – we grabbed papers from the car, plonked down at the beachside café, and sipped flat whites while the dog chased waves. It's that proper chill spot, with families building sandcastles and walkers ambling by. Langland Bay's just the next one over, a five-minute drive if you're feeling lazy, or another easy path stroll. We opted for the car after my earlier hedge heroics, parking up for a paddle in the shallows. The water was bracing, as they say – enough to wake you up proper.

That evening, back in the flat, we cracked open a bottle of wine on the balcony, watching the bay light up with the sunset. It's funny, isn't it? You spend weeks faffing over TripAdvisor reviews, worrying it'll be a damp squib, but here I was reflecting on how a daft driving mishap made the arrival all the sweeter. No fancy spa or pool needed – just sea air, a comfy bed, and paths begging to be explored. We've got three days of this: bracing beach walks to Bracelet Bay if the weather holds, maybe fish and chips from Mumbles pier, and lazy mornings with the papers. Gower's magic like that – raw, rugged, and ridiculously relaxing. If you're after a proper coastal escape without the crowds, this is your spot. Can't wait for tomorrow's chaos... I mean, adventures.
