About Llandudno
I’ll never forget the drive to our holiday cottage near Llandudno – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the motorway turned into a comedy of errors. We’d set off full of beans, me navigating on my phone while my other half drove, both buzzing with that pre-holiday anticipation of sea air and chippy teas. But then the sat-nav decided to have a midlife crisis, rerouting us through some winding back lanes that felt like they hadn’t seen tarmac since the 70s. To top it off, we had a minor puncture scare – nothing dramatic, just a slow hiss from the rear tyre that had us pulling over in a layby near Conway, faffing about with the spare while sheep looked on judgementally. By the time we rolled up, sweaty and a bit frazzled, I was half-convinced the holiday was cursed before it began.

But oh, what a turnaround. Pulling into the drive of this fantastic property – a cosy, traditional Welsh cottage just a short hop from the walled market town of Conway – my heart lifted instantly. It’s the sort of place that looks like it’s been plucked from a postcard: nestled quietly with that welcoming vibe, perfect for unwinding after our arrival chaos. First impressions? Spot on. The gardens were blooming with late summer colour, and as we unloaded the boot (still grumbling about the sat-nav), the host popped out with a cheery wave and a pot of tea brewing. Proper hospitality, that – none of your self-check-in malarkey.

Stepping inside, it felt like coming home, only better. The living space was snug and inviting, with everything you’d need for a lazy break: comfy sofas for collapsing into, a kitchen stocked for fry-ups, and those little touches that make you grin, like board games in a basket. We dumped our bags and cracked open a window – bam, there’s the gentle hum of Conway in the distance, that historic town with its massive 13th-century castle looming like something out of a storybook. We couldn’t resist a wander down later that afternoon, once the puncture panic had faded. The fishing harbour was alive with gulls and boats bobbing, and we poked around the independent shops, grabbing pasties from a bakery that smelled like heaven. Did we squeeze past the famous smallest house in Wales? Course we did – I barely fitted, mind you, which had us in stitches.

That first evening, sat on the patio with a GandT as the sun dipped, I had one of those quiet moments of self-reflection. Here I was, knackered from the road but stupidly content, thinking how daft it is to let a flat tyre ruin the buzz. This spot’s a gem for pottering about – Plas Mawr’s Tudor vibes just a stroll away, or Bodnant Gardens if you fancy a floral wander. Even the RSPB reserve nearby promises birdwatching without the hordes. No need to venture far; it’s all right here, wrapping you in that North Wales charm. If you’re after a proper reset, book it – mishaps and all, it’s the kind of place that sticks with you.
