About Llandudno
I finally made it to Llandudno after what felt like the world's slowest drive from Manchester. We'd set off full of beans, me navigating with my trusty sat-nav and a thermos of tea, but about halfway there, disaster struck – a rogue seagull decided our windscreen was the perfect target for its lunch. Splattered and swearing under my breath (well, mildly tutting), we pulled over for a quick clean-up at a services, laughing about how it was clearly a Welsh welcome committee member gone rogue. By the time we trundled into town, the sun was dipping low over the bay, and my heart did a little flip of anticipation. What a cracking first impression – that sweeping Victorian promenade stretching out like an old friend's grin, the sea breeze carrying hints of chips and candy floss.

We'd booked this lovely second-floor apartment right in the thick of it, perfect for a couple like us craving a proper seaside escape without the faff of trekking miles. It's got that easy, stylish vibe – open-plan living with a kitchen that's a doddle for knocking up a simple supper, and everything you need to hunker down without stirring far. No grand plans, mind; this trip was all about doing bugger all, and boy, did it deliver.

First morning, we wandered down to the pier for a bag of chips and a stare at the Irish Sea, but honestly, we were back within the hour, kicking off our shoes and flopping onto the sofa with books and brews. The joy of it! No schedules, no rushing – just lazy days unfolding like a well-worn novel. I'd picked up a battered copy of a P.G. Wodehouse from a charity shop on the high street, and spent hours chuckling away while the other half dozed with a podcast on. The apartment's got this brilliant little balcony affair overlooking the bustle below, ideal for people-watching over coffee, waving at dog-walkers on their way to the beach.

Afternoons blurred into gentle strolls along the prom – maybe a potter to the pier for ice cream, or a meander through town to the local bakery for fresh scones. But the real magic was retreating back to our nook, firing up the hob for pasta and veg (nothing fancy, but tasting like heaven after fresh air), then curling up with the telly or a board game till the light faded. There's a shared garden space too, tucked away like a secret – we claimed a sunny corner with loungers, lazing there with factor 50 and a jug of Pimm's, watching clouds drift by. Pure bliss, that slowing down. Made me reflect, you know? Back home, life's a whirlwind of deadlines and doom-scrolling; here, time stretched out, reminding me how daft it is not to savour the quiet bits more often. We even skipped the cable car up the Great Orme – too energetic! – opting instead for another chapter and a nap.

By the end of the week, we were proper rested, sunburnt in the best way, and already plotting a return. If you're after a romantic bolt-hole where the highlight is mastering the art of doing nowt but feeling everything, this is your spot. Llandudno's got the lot without the crowds, and that apartment? Spot on for switching off.
