About Llandudno
Still, the first proper look at the place made the detour worth it. The front door opened onto a bright hallway that smelled faintly of polish and sea air, and the living room beyond had that comfortable, slightly grand feel you get in old houses that have been loved rather than just decorated. Tall windows framed a slice of the promenade, and when I stepped out onto the little patio I could hear the gentle rush of waves on the beach just across the road. It was close enough that I could already imagine padding down in the morning with a mug of tea, still in pyjamas if nobody was looking. My partner had already claimed the biggest armchair and was testing the view like a professional holiday-tester, which left me to explore the kitchen. It was compact but well thought out, with everything within arm’s reach and a little table by the window that seemed made for breakfast with the curtains open. I caught myself smiling at how quickly the journey stress was already fading; there’s something about walking into a house that’s clearly been set up for exactly this sort of easy, low-key stay that makes you feel instantly at home. Upstairs, the bedrooms were simple and restful, with crisp linens and those heavy curtains that actually keep the morning light out. I stood for a moment at the landing window, watching a couple of dogs chase each other along the sand, and felt that small, familiar tug of wondering why we don’t do this sort of thing more often. The mishap with the satnav already felt like a story we’d laugh about over fish and chips later, rather than the start of a ruined weekend. By the time we’d unpacked the essentials—kettle on, biscuits out—I realised the house itself had done most of the settling-in for us. It wasn’t flashy or trying too hard; it just felt like somewhere you could come back to after a day on the beach without needing to do much more than kick your shoes off. Standing there with the window cracked open and the sound of distant waves drifting in, I already knew the rest of the stay was going to be exactly what we’d hoped for when we first booked it. |
