About Llandudno
I’ll never forget the drive up to Llandudno from Manchester – it’s only about an hour and a half, but wouldn’t you know it, I took a wrong turn just past Colwyn Bay and ended up looping through some narrow lanes with sheep giving me the side-eye. Classic me, always relying on sat-nav but forgetting to charge my phone properly. Still, by the time I pulled up to this stunning detached bungalow near Betws yn Rhos, just 4.5 miles from Abergele, I was buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation. You know the feeling – windows down, sea air wafting in, wondering what’s waiting.

First impressions? Blimey, it didn’t disappoint. This charming spot is stylishly furnished with real attention to detail, all warm and welcoming luxury that screams family getaway. Stepping inside, the open layout hits you straight away – bright, airy sitting room with far-reaching views through the patio doors, and that double-sided woodburner warming things up nicely as it opens onto the dining room. The kitchen’s a dream too, modern units and a spacious breakfast counter where you can perch and chat while someone else does the cooking. I dumped my bags, cracked open a brew, and thought, right, this is it – time to switch off.

The joy of the whole trip was doing sod all, honestly. No grand plans, no ticking off tourist spots. We were bang in the middle of picturesque Conway County, close enough to pop to Abergele for essentials but far enough to feel tucked away. Mornings started lazy: I’d potter out to the garden with a cuppa, the sun filtering through the hedges, and just sit there listening to the birds. It’s got that perfect setup for slowing right down – loungers, a bit of lawn, and views that stretch out forever. I’d crack open a book, some daft paperback thriller I’d grabbed from the charity shop, and lose hours. Lunch? Whatever was in the fridge, thrown together on that breakfast bar while the others lounged inside by the woodburner.

Afternoons blurred into the same blissful rhythm. One day, I swear I read three chapters without moving, feet up, a light breeze rustling the pages. The kids (well, my lot, aged 12 and 15) sprawled out too – board games in the sitting room, then out to the garden for a bit of frisbee before flopping back with snacks. We’d light the woodburner as the light faded, cosy chats over simple suppers, no rush to be anywhere. It was pure unwind mode, the kind where time stretches out like toffee.

Looking back, I had a proper moment of self-reflection one evening, staring out those patio doors as the sun dipped low. Life at home’s non-stop – work, school runs, the lot. Here, in this little North Wales haven, I realised how knackered I’d been. Doing nothing felt like the most productive thing ever. No FOMO, just contentment. If you’re after a memorable holiday that’s all about recharging, this is the ticket. We left feeling brand new, already plotting a return. Proper gem.
