About Llandudno
I’ll never forget the drive up to Llandudno – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from Manchester turned into a proper comedy of errors. Sat-nav decided to play silly buggers halfway through Colwyn Bay, rerouting us down a narrow one-way street that was clearly meant for pushbikes, not our overloaded estate car stuffed with beach gear, cool bags, and the kids’ endless supply of snacks. We ended up in a standoff with a granny in a Fiat, both of us reversing like we were in a bad Three Stooges sketch, until she flashed her lights and we sheepishly backed out. By the time we spotted the roadside parking spot right outside the house, I was knackered, the other half was muttering about “one more go at this bloody holiday lark,” and the little ones were chanting “are we there yet?” on loop. But honestly, pulling up and clocking that elegant Victorian front – all symmetrical and welcoming in the heart of town – it was like a sigh of relief. Proper first impressions, that.

Stepping through the original tiled porch felt like crossing into someone’s cosy dream home. The patterned floors and that decorative wallpaper hit you straight away, with a massive mirror bouncing the afternoon light around like it was showing off. I paused there, bags in hand, thinking, “Blimey, we’ve lucked out.” Inside, the sitting room wrapped us up in these warm orange walls – two big four-seater sofas and a snug little two-seater just begging us to flop down. The wall-mounted telly was a godsend after the road rage; we cracked open a few tins and let the chaos settle while the kids raided the toy cupboard we’d spotted.

Wandering through, the dining room’s square table screamed family feasts, all framed in leafy green wallpaper with those tree patterns – perfect for plotting our beach attacks over fish and chips. The kitchen next door was a dream: wooden counters, tiled floors, and this beast of a range cooker that had me itching to bash out a full Welsh breakfast the next morning. Even the ground-floor shower room, with its mad turquoise tiles and pink panels, made me chuckle – bold as brass, just like Llandudno itself.

Up the carpeted stairs, the main bathroom’s freestanding bath called my name after all that driving stress. Sinking into bubbles later that night? Pure bliss. The bedrooms didn’t disappoint either – a double with a fancy cast iron fireplace, a family room with a bay window for people-watching, and a single done up sweet as you like. Top floor had more doubles, another family setup, and a tucked-away single under the eaves, with a Velux letting in that gorgeous North Wales light.

But the real star? Stepping out to the enclosed garden and firing up the hot tub under the stars. After the arrival pandemonium, bubbling away with a GandT, listening to the faint pub chatter down the road, it was magic. A quick stroll to the beach sands for sunset, or nipping to the local shop for milk – couldn’t ask for better. Made me reflect, mid-bubble: we’re always rushing, aren’t we? Sometimes the messiest starts make the best stories. Llandudno sorted us right out.
