About Gwern Borter Manor.
Conway, a World Heritage Site, is famed worldwide for its historical and architectural heritage. Yet its bustling town centre brims with specialist shops, eateries, hotels, traditional festivals, fairs, music events, galleries, and attractions. Conway Castle, built for King Edward I (1283-1287), exemplifies medieval military architecture with its unique elongated shape, two barbicans, eight towers, and bow-shaped hall on a rocky outcrop. The town proudly upholds annual celebrations like the Gwledd Conway Feast, Honey Fair, and Seed Fair, plus year-round music. It's the perfect base for Snowdonia National Park, sandy beaches, and nature. Nearby: Llechwedd Slate Caverns (Europe's longest zip line) and Surf Snowdonia (6 miles away). Nearby attractions.
About Llandudno
By the time we pulled up, the anticipation had me grinning like a kid at Christmas. Nestled in those stunning Snowdonia surroundings, this beautiful property had just undergone a massive refurb, and you could tell the owner was chuffed to bits to have us there from late March onwards. It’s the sort of place made for big families or mates’ get-togethers – sleeps twenty easy, with a massive enclosed garden that screamed lazy afternoons. First impressions? Spot on. We wandered in, bags dumped, and straight into this well-equipped kitchen that had everything you’d need to whip up a feast without breaking a sweat. The formal dining room was begging for a proper family blowout, complete with fizz to toast the week ahead. But here’s the thing – we didn’t do much at all, and it was bloody marvellous. No grand plans, no ticking off landmarks. Llandudno’s right there, just a gentle drive away, with its promenade and pier for a mooch if the mood took us, but mostly we stayed put, savouring the joy of doing sod all. Mornings kicked off slow: brekkie in the kitchen, then spilling out into that garden with mugs of tea, watching the clouds drift over the hills. The kids claimed a corner for den-building (out of cushions, mostly), while we adults cracked open books we’d been meaning to read for months. I devoured a battered paperback thriller, feet up on a lounger, only pausing to shoo the dog away from my crisps. Afternoons blurred into the living spaces – plenty of them, all cosy and inviting. We’d flop on sofas, chatting nonsense or dozing off to the sound of birdsong filtering through the windows. One day, I caught myself just staring out at the garden, marvelling at how the light shifted on the trees. Gentle self-reflection moment: back home, life’s a whirlwind of deadlines and to-dos, but here? It was like hitting pause. I realised I’d forgotten how good it feels to slow down, to let conversations meander and silences stretch without guilt. Evenings were pure indulgence – cooking together in that ace kitchen, then piling around the dining table for roasts and red wine, laughter echoing late into the night. No rushing off anywhere; just us, unwinding in this historic gem so close to Conway’s charm without ever needing it. If you’re after proper relaxation, this is it – lazy days in paradise, recharging the soul. We left feeling utterly refreshed, already plotting a return. What a find. |
