About Llandudno
I finally made it to Llandudno after a bit of a faff on the A55 – some numpty in a white van decided to play dodgems with my wing mirror just past Colwyn Bay, but a quick pit stop at a layby for a cuppa sorted my nerves. Heart racing a tad, I pulled into this quiet cul-de-sac near West Beach, sandwiched between the hulking Great Orme and the cheekier Little Orme. The property was a proper gem: a spacious family pad done up in that comfy, seaside style, perfect for up to 10 of us with a couple of sofa beds if needed. Stepping through the open archway into the lounge, I was greeted by a gas fire smack in the centre, bay window framing a lush garden, and reclining sofas with USB ports – ideal for charging the phone while sinking in. But honestly, the hot tub out back had me grinning like a kid at the fair; I could already picture lazy afternoons bubbling away.

First impressions? Spot on. The sea air hit me straight away, that salty tang promising adventures. We were buzzing with anticipation – me, the missus, kids, and a mate with his lot – ready to lace up our boots for some proper Welsh coastal walks. Llandudno's got that magic for it: endless paths hugging the cliffs and beaches, never straying too far from home base.

Day one, the weather gods smiled: blue skies, light breeze. We headed straight for West Beach, toes in the sand before veering up towards the Great Orme. That headland's a beast – we huffed up the zigzag path from the pier end, dodging sheep (they're everywhere, cheeky sods) and marvelling at the views over the bay. By lunch, we'd reached the tramway top, picnicking with pasties from a beach kiosk. Bliss. Afternoon was hot tub recovery, steam rising as the sun dipped.

But oh, British weather – it's got a wicked sense of humour. Next morning, the heavens opened. No way were we letting that dampen spirits. Waterproofs on, we trudged the promenade from West Shore to the pier, waves crashing like they were auditioning for a disaster flick. Rain turned the sand gritty, but we laughed it off, sheltering under candy-striped awnings for fish and chips. Plans to conquer the Little Orme shifted to a gentler loop around Happy Valley – that sheltered bowl behind the Orme, with its floral gardens and wild goats peering down like nosy neighbours. Muddy paths, yes, but the mist added drama, and spotting seals bobbing offshore felt like a secret reward.

By day three, sun peeked out again, so we doubled back for a victory lap: the full Orme coastal path, wind whipping our cheeks, gulls screeching overhead. Legs ached, but those panoramic sweeps of Conway Bay? Worth every blister. Evenings were for hot tub debriefs, wine in hand, swapping tall tales.

Looking back, those weather flips were the holiday's heartbeat – forcing us to adapt, embrace the soggy bits, and appreciate the golden hours more. Made me reflect: life's a bit like Llandudno's cliffs, innit? Steep and unpredictable, but the views from the top make you glad you kept walking. Can't wait to return.
