About Llandudno
I’ll never forget the drive up to Llandudno from Manchester – it was one of those classic British road trips where the sat-nav decides to have a midlife crisis. About halfway there, just past Prestatyn, it cheerfully announced we’d missed our turning and promptly lost signal. Cue 20 minutes of me peering at faded road signs while my other half clutched the map like it was a lifeline. We laughed it off, windows down, with the sea breeze already teasing us from afar. By the time we trundled into that quiet North Wales village on the outskirts, I was buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation – you know, the kind where you imagine endless cups of tea and zero alarms.

Pulling up to the place, my first impressions were spot on. This cosy annexe-style spot, tucked just 0.9 miles from Llysfaen, looked like it had been waiting for us. Nestled with those far-reaching views over the Welsh mountains and out to the sea, it felt like stepping into a postcard. We climbed the steps to the open-plan living space, all light and airy with plush furnishings and a fresh colour palette that just screamed relaxation. Perfect for us two, it was the sort of contemporary hideaway that makes you exhale and think, “Yeah, this’ll do nicely.”

But honestly, the joy of the whole trip was doing sod all – and I mean that in the best possible way. After unpacking (which took all of five minutes), we flopped into the garden with a couple of cold drinks from the local shop in Llysfaen. The sun was dipping low over the hills, painting everything golden, and we just sat there, feet up, watching the world go by. No grand plans, no hiking marathons – just lazy cottage days stretching out like a dream. I’d brought a stack of books I’d been meaning to crack open for months: a battered detective novel and some light travel memoirs. Curled up on the plush sofa inside when the breeze picked up, or back out in the garden with a blanket, I lost hours to those pages. My partner dozed off more than once, mug in hand, and I caught myself grinning at how content we looked.

One afternoon, we wandered all of 10 minutes down the road for pasties from a little café in Penrhyn Bay – proper flaky ones with steaming chips on the side – then retreated straight back to base. Evenings were for slow suppers cooked on the spot (pasta with whatever we fancied, nothing fancy), followed by more reading by the window as the sea twinkled in the distance. There’s something magic about slowing right down in a place like this; no rush, no lists, just the rhythm of the waves and the mountains standing guard.

Looking back, I realise I needed that gentle nudge to unplug. Life back home’s a whirlwind of deadlines and to-dos, but here, in our little Welsh nook, time stretched lazily. We left feeling recharged, not knackered – proof that sometimes the best holiday is the one where you barely leave the garden. If you’re after a snug getaway for two, with views to melt your stresses away, this is your spot. Utter bliss.
