About North Wales
I’ll never forget the drive up to our little holiday spot in North Wales – we’d packed the car to the gills with wellies, books, and enough snacks to feed a small army, only for the sat-nav to chuck us down a narrow lane that turned into a proper mudslide after a sneaky shower. There I was, white-knuckling the wheel, while the kids in the back cheered like it was a rollercoaster. A quick detour through a puddle the size of a pond, and we emerged, laughing, just a few minutes late but buzzing with that arrival anticipation you only get on holiday.

Pulling up to the cottage, my first impressions were spot on – this enchanting three-bedder, steeped in history, looked like it had been waiting just for us, nestled against dramatic open moorland that stretched out like a painting. The rotating garden pod caught my eye straight away, promising lazy spins with a brew in hand, and that private hot tub? Pure bliss on the horizon. It’s the kind of place designed for families or mates, with every detail tastefully finished for a luxurious retreat, no matter the season.

From that moment, we embraced the joy of doing precisely nothing. No grand plans, no ticking off tourist spots – just lazy cottage days that melted into one another. Mornings started slow, waking to those stunning moorland views through the bedroom window, mist rolling over the hills like a gentle hug. We’d potter down for breakfast in the comfy lounge, the underfloor heating keeping toes toasty even on cooler Welsh days (though ours were mild and inviting). The wood burner got a good go one evening, crackling away as we sprawled on the sofa with mugs of tea, utterly content.

The garden was our kingdom. That lawned play area out front kept the little ones amused for hours – building dens one minute, then racing about like feral puppies. Nearby, the splendid little ‘tiddler’ stream bubbled along, perfect for paddling and spotting minnows darting about. Us grown-ups claimed the rotating pod, twisting it to catch the sun while flicking through dog-eared paperbacks. I must’ve got through half a detective novel that first afternoon, feet up, bird song the only soundtrack. And the wildlife! Rabbits hopping across the moor, buzzards wheeling overhead – it was like nature’s own telly, far better than anything streaming.

Evenings meant bubbling in the hot tub, steam rising as the sun dipped behind the hills, chatting about nothing much. No rush, no schedules – just the peace and tranquillity of it all. One night, staring at the stars (so clear up here, away from city lights), I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Life back home’s a whirlwind of deadlines and dash, but here? Slowing down felt revolutionary. I caught myself grinning like an idiot, thinking, “This is it, isn’t it? This is living.” We left feeling recharged, already plotting a return. If you’re after a spot to properly unwind in North Wales, find yourself a cottage like this and let the world fade away.
