About North Wales
I’ll never forget the drive up to our little holiday spot in North Wales – me at the wheel, my wife navigating with that sat-nav that’s got a mind of its own. We’d left early from Cheshire, aiming for the coast near Llanengan, but about halfway there, disaster struck: a rogue sheep decided our lane was prime grazing and planted itself right in front of us. Heart in mouth, I slammed on the brakes, and we both burst out laughing as the woolly blocker ambled off like it owned the road. Classic Wales, that – keeps you on your toes!

By the time we pulled up, the sun was dipping low over the hills, and honestly, the anticipation had been building all day. What if it wasn’t as good as the photos? But blimey, first impressions? Spot on. This spacious detached property sits in the most spectacular spot, with views that stretch out to the sea and those rugged Llyn Peninsula cliffs. It’s got generous family accommodation and grounds that feel like your own private playground, plus a cracking hot tub and an adjoining summer house with a table tennis setup – perfect for a bit of post-dinner rivalry.

We dumped the bags and cracked open a bottle of fizz on the patio, just soaking it all in. The chaos of cottage life kicked off straight away: unpacking revealed I’d forgotten the teabags (priorities!), so it was a quick dash to the local shop in Llanengan for essentials. But that’s the joy of it, isn’t it? No rush, no schedules – just us, a couple in our forties sneaking a relaxed break away from the daily grind.

Next morning, we wandered down to the beach at Abersoch, barely a couple of miles away – wide sands, gentle waves, and barely a soul about. We mooched along, picking up shells and chatting about nothing much, before heading back for a lazy lunch in the garden. Afternoons blurred into hot tub sessions; there’s something properly indulgent about bubbling away with a GandT, watching gulls wheel over the bay. I even dragged her into the summer house for a game of table tennis – let’s just say my competitive streak led to more paddle-whacking than actual points, and she trounced me fair and square. Gave us both a good giggle.

Evenings were pure bliss: firing up the barbecue (after a minor charcoal faff, naturally), then sprawling out with a film on the laptop. One night, as the stars popped out over the dark skies – North Wales does them like nowhere else – I caught myself reflecting. Life’s been a whirlwind lately, kids flown the nest, work piling up. This place? It’s a gentle reminder to slow down, savour the simple stuff: a shared laugh, a warm soak, the sea’s whisper. No grand adventures needed; just us, pottering about in this perfect nook.

We left with sandy shoes, fuller hearts, and a promise to return. If you’re after that cosy couple’s escape with a dash of family-friendly fun, North Wales delivers every time.
