About North Wales
I’ll never forget the drive up to that little village between Ironbridge and Shrewsbury – we’d been itching for a proper break, you know, the kind where you do bugger all and love every minute. Me and the missus piled into the car from Birmingham, sat-nav on, thermos of tea in hand, dreaming of lazy days ahead. But about halfway, disaster struck: a rogue sheep decided our lane was prime grazing and planted itself right in front. Cue 20 minutes of gentle honking and me chatting to the farmer over the fence like old mates. We arrived a tad later than planned, but honestly, that anticipation only made it sweeter – pulling up to this tidy first-floor apartment, all welcoming with its smart open-plan setup, I felt the city stress melt away before we’d even unpacked.

First impressions? Spot on. It’s the sort of place that whispers “relax” from the off – couples’ heaven, really, with that full-fitted kitchen begging for lazy brekkies and an en-suite shower to freshen up without rushing. But the real star? That private hot tub on the patio, steaming gently under the Shropshire sun. We dumped the bags, cracked open a couple of cold ones, and within minutes were bubbling away, toes wrinkling, watching nothing but the clouds drift by. No itinerary, no alarms – just us, slowing right down.

The joy of it was doing so very little, and I mean that from the heart. Mornings kicked off with me faffing in the kitchen, whipping up scrambled eggs on toast while she flicked through a dog-eared paperback she’d brought. We’d eat at the little table by the Smart TV, bingeing episodes of some rubbish sitcom we’d never admit to loving back home, or better yet, step out to the private patio for alfresco munching amid the birdsong. Afternoons blurred into hot tub sessions – aching bones from what? A gentle amble down the lane to the village shop for milk and biscuits, maybe spotting a few locals nodding hello. The garden area felt like our secret bubble, hedges shielding us from the world, perfect for sprawling on loungers with books. I devoured half of a detective novel I’d been ignoring for months, chuckling at plot twists while she dozed off with her rom-com thriller.

One evening, as the sun dipped low, painting everything golden, I had a proper moment. Sat there in the tub, bubbles popping, her head on my shoulder, I thought: when did we last just *be* like this? No emails pinging, no kids demanding attention (bless ’em), no rushing about. Work had been mad lately, and I’d turned into one of those blokes who forgets to breathe. This place forced me to stop, reflect a bit – realise how bloody good it feels to let time stretch out lazy and unhurried. We did pop over to the nearby river once, just to skim stones and pretend we were kids, but mostly? Blissful inertia.

By the end of the week, we were pickled in relaxation – skin pruned from the tub, souls recharged. Driving back, that sheep incident felt like a distant giggle. If you’re after North Wales countryside vibes without the hike-and-conquer malarkey, find yourself a spot like this. Proper tonic for the soul.
