About North Wales
We'd been dreaming of a proper getaway to North Wales for ages, just me and the missus, no kids in tow this time – a rare chance to rediscover that pre-parenting spark. The drive up from Cheshire was meant to be a breeze, but typical us: I took a wrong turn near Bangor and ended up on some winding back lane that had us giggling like idiots as the sat-nav threw a right paddy. "Recalculating," it kept bleating, while we munched on service station pasties that were more pastry than filling. Still, by the time we crested the hill towards Penysarn on Anglesey, the anticipation was buzzing – you could almost taste the sea air.

Pulling up to the cottage, we were gobsmacked. This beautifully presented place is a proper holiday gem, with a brilliant mix of rooms and loads of space that'd suit any age group, though for our chilled couple's break, it felt like our own private bolthole. The whole setup screams family-friendly fun without the fuss – perfect for pottering about on adventures or just kicking back. Stepping inside, we were hit with these breathtaking views right away; the countryside stretching out in the distance had us rooted to the spot, jaws dropped. The modern kitchen-diner flows seamlessly into a cracking lounge with white leather sofas that practically begged us to flop down and soak up those vistas from dawn till dusk.

First morning, we cracked open the windows and brewed a pot of tea strong enough to stand a spoon in, watching mist roll off the fields. No grand plans, mind – that's the joy of it. We ambled down to the nearby beach at low tide, shoes off, paddling in the Irish Sea like daft kids, collecting shells that now clutter our mantelpiece back home. Lunch was a messy affair in the kitchen: I attempted Welsh rarebit (burnt the first batch, naturally), and we laughed over plates of it with doorstep bread from the local shop in Amlwch, just a couple of miles away. Afternoon? A gentle hike along the coastal path towards Bull Bay, where the gulls wheeled overhead and the waves crashed just loud enough to drown out our worries.

Evenings were pure cottage chaos in the best way – board games scattered across the lounge floor after a failed attempt at a gourmet pasta (who knew Anglesey doesn't stock fresh basil?), followed by snuggled-up telly with a bottle of local craft cider. One night, I got a bit reflective staring out at the stars – you know, the "where did the years go?" moment. Here we were, mid-forties, still holding hands like we did on our first date, the simple rhythm of cottage life reminding us life's too short for anything but these quiet joys.

We left buzzing to book again, hearts full from those unhurried North Wales days. If you're after relaxed bliss with a splash of everyday mayhem, this is your spot.
