About North Wales
I’ll never forget the drive up to North Wales last month – me behind the wheel, sat-nav chirping away, and the kids in the back already squabbling over crisps before we’d even hit the A55. We’d planned this caravan getaway near Llanddulas for a proper lazy weekend, but halfway there, disaster struck: a rogue sheep decided to play chicken with our estate car on one of those twisty lanes near Colwyn Bay. I slammed on the brakes, heart in my mouth, and we all burst out laughing as the woolly escapee trotted off into the hedge like nothing happened. “Welcome to Wales,” I muttered, shaking my head. Typical start to a family holiday.

Pulling into the beach caravan park just as the sun dipped low, I felt that proper buzz of anticipation – you know, that tingly excitement of arriving somewhere new? First impressions? Spot on. It’s this beautiful luxury two-bedroom caravan, dead cosy and modern, sleeping up to six of us no bother. Sleek lines, comfy furnishings, and that inviting decking area begging for downtime. We’d splashed out on the brand new hot tub (small extra charge, mind, but worth every penny), and as we unpacked, I could already picture bubbling away under the stars later.

From the off, though, it wasn’t about dashing about – this trip was all about doing bugger all, and loving every minute. Our first morning, I cracked open a book I’d been meaning to read for ages (some daft crime thriller that had me chuckling at the plot holes), plonked myself in the garden with a brew, and just let the world slow right down. The kids mooched about, building pebble castles on the nearby beach – it’s literally a gentle five-minute stroll away – while the other half dozed in a deckchair, newspaper over her face. No schedules, no rush. Lunch was a lazy picnic of cheese rolls and thermos tea, sprawled out watching gulls wheel overhead.

Afternoons melted into the same blissful rhythm. I’d wander the garden paths, feeling the sea breeze ruffle the pages, or we’d all pile into the hot tub as dusk fell, steam rising like a proper treat. One evening, after sunset, we took that lovely amble along the beach – sands still warm underfoot, waves whispering in. No need for grand plans; just us, making daft memories, like when the littlest one chased a crab and ended up with sandy trousers. Pure gold.

Looking back, I had a proper moment of self-reflection one quiet afternoon, book forgotten on my lap. Life’s mad rush back home – work emails, school runs – it all felt miles away. Here, in this little haven, I realised slowing down isn’t lazy; it’s essential. We chatted about nothing much, laughed at seagull impressions, and recharged proper. By the time we packed up, hearts full and batteries topped, I was already plotting our next “do-nothing” escape. North Wales, you’ve got me hooked on the joy of bugger all.
