About 1 Bryn Beudy.

Once home to coal and iron mines, Stepaside is now a peaceful holiday hamlet with houses, pubs, and restaurants. This valley buzzed with industry from the 14th to 19th centuries as part of the Pembrokeshire coalfield. Little remains today except the old ironworks and railway tunnels between Wisemans Bridge and Saundersfoot. Explore nearby Amroth (15-min walk), Tenby, and Saundersfoot; relax on beaches like Barafundle Bay; walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; boat to Caldey Island or puffin-filled Skomer; try watersports or Tenby's links golf. Discover Narberth's boutiques, delis, eateries, and Queen's Hall events. Ideal holiday base year-round.

About Pembrokeshire
We'd been dreaming of a proper Welsh getaway for ages, just me and the missus with our two daft dogs in tow, so when we finally pointed the car west from Narberth, hearts were light and the boot was stuffed with treats. The journey started off grand, winding through those lush green lanes towards Stepaside, but wouldn't you know it, about five miles out, we hit a rogue sheep blockade right in the middle of the road. Proper standoff – horns locked, me beeping gently like a fool while the farmer ambled over with his crook, chuckling. "They'll move when they're ready, love," he said. Ten minutes later, we were on our way, laughing about how even the livestock was gatekeeping our holiday.

Pulling up to this cracking little retreat near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, I felt that proper buzz of anticipation – you know, that 'this is going to be mint' flutter. First impressions? Spot on. Off-road parking for three cars (handy even for our one overloaded estate), and the balcony views straight out to the rolling hills had us grinning like kids. The hot tub was bubbling away softly, calling our names already, and the dogs gave it the once-over, tails wagging approval before flopping down like they owned the place.

Stepping inside was like a warm hug. Three bedrooms, each with its own telly and doors straight out to the patio – pure genius for lazy mornings with a cuppa in the fresh air. We claimed the king-size one for its cosy unwind vibes, while the two doubles with their en-suites (walk-in showers and all the bits) meant no queuing for the loo, which is marital bliss right there. It felt just right for us, a family couple escaping the daily grind without the kids this time – well, the human ones, anyway.

Days blurred into that perfect cottage chaos: brekkie on the patio with the dogs hoovering up crumbs, then a gentle stroll to Stepaside's cosy pub for a pint and a ploughman's. Afternoons were for ambling along the coastal paths at Amroth Beach, just a short hop away – dipping toes in the bracing sea, spotting seals bobbing about, and me pretending I wasn't knackered from the 'hike'. Evenings? Hot tub under the stars, bubbles and a bottle of plonk, chatting rubbish till our fingers pruned. One night, the dogs decided the tub was their personal paddling pool, splashing about till we were drenched – classic holiday mayhem, but the kind that makes you chuckle for days.

There was this quiet moment on the balcony one sunset, watching the light fade over the hills, when I caught myself reflecting: life's mad rush back home feels miles away here. We're not getting any younger, but spots like this remind you it's the simple stuff – shared laughs, soppy views, a bit of pet pandemonium – that recharge the batteries. We left Stepaside reluctantly, dogs snoring in the back, already plotting our return. If you're after relaxed Welsh bliss, this is your spot.
