About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Pembrokeshire – a proper British road trip, complete with rain-lashed windscreens and that one daft moment when I took a wrong turn near Carmarthen, ending up on a narrow lane hemmed in by hedges taller than our car. We were bumper-to-bumper with a tractor for what felt like miles, me laughing nervously while my other half fiddled with the satnav. But honestly, it just added to the anticipation – that bubbling excitement of finally reaching our little rural escape.

Pulling up to the enchanting three-storey farmhouse on this quiet farm in Redberth was pure magic. First impressions? Spot on. Tucked away with rolling fields all around, it screamed 'slow down and breathe'. No crowds, no hustle – just the kind of place where you park the car and think, right, that's it for the week. Perfect for our mates' get-together, with space for everyone to sprawl out.

From the off, we embraced the joy of doing bugger all. Lazy cottage days became our religion. Mornings started slow: I'd brew a pot of tea, grab a book from the stack I'd lugged down (mostly dog-eared thrillers I'd been meaning to crack for ages), and flop into one of those comfy garden chairs overlooking the lawn. The garden was a dream – wildflowers nodding in the breeze, a hammock swaying gently, and birdsong that drowned out any lingering city noise in my head. We'd picnic right there some lunchtimes, cheese ploughman's from the local shop, feet up, watching clouds drift by. No schedules, no rush.

Afternoons? More of the same, blissfully. One day, I wandered no further than the garden's edge, spotting rabbits hopping about like they owned the place. It made me chuckle – here I was, a bloke who usually races through life, suddenly content with a cold cider and a chapter or two. Gentle self-reflection hit me then: when did I last just sit? Proper sit, without scrolling or planning the next thing? This farmhouse forced that pause, and crikey, it was needed.

We did venture out once or twice, mind – it's only five miles to those cracking beaches. Castle Beach with its island views had us ambling barefoot for an hour, but we were back by teatime, boots off, straight to the garden for a lazy barbecue. Tenby Beach tempted with its golden sands, ideal for a gentle walk and a picnic, though we skipped the water sports bit – too knackered from all that relaxing. Saundersfoot was another gem, family-friendly with swimmable waters and a harbour full of cosy eateries, but we just parked up, grabbed fish and chips, and ate them on the sea wall before heading home to read by the window. Wiseman's Bridge caught our eye too, those rocky outcrops begging a short stroll inland along the old colliery railway path through the woodland and tunnels – atmospheric, but we kept it brief, saving energy for evening GandTs in the garden.

Honestly, the real joy was the slowing down. No grand adventures, just those pocket moments: sunset over the fields, a shared laugh over a rubbish joke, the simple hum of farm life. Pembrokeshire worked its charm without us lifting a finger. If you're after tranquil, this is it – book it, bin the itinerary, and let the days unfold. We left utterly recharged, already plotting a return.
