About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Pembrokeshire – a proper British road trip, complete with sat-nav faffing out just as we hit the twisty lanes near Tenby. We’d been buzzing with anticipation, windows down, dreaming of coastal paths and fresh sea air, when – bang! – a rogue pothole decided to test our little hatchback’s suspension. Nothing major, just enough to make us pull over for a brew and a laugh about how Wales always keeps you on your toes. By the time we rolled up, hearts still racing a bit, the sun was peeking through, and there it was: this cracking luxurious apartment, all sleek and welcoming, sleeping four of us perfectly. First impressions? Spot on. We dumped the bags and flung open the doors to those sea views – North Beach glinting just 100 metres away. Pure magic.

The plan was simple: hike our socks off, letting the Pembrokeshire coast dictate the pace. Day one, weather gods smiling, we wandered straight out to North Beach, toes in the sand, then pushed on towards Castle Beach. It’s tiny, sheltered, with water so calm it’s like the sea’s having a lie-in. We paddled about, chuckling at my other half pretending to be a pro at skimming stones – he’s rubbish, bless him. From there, a cheeky clifftop stroll into town, grabbing ice creams by the harbour. Tenby’s got that buzzy vibe, cafes spilling onto pavements, but we kept it moving, legs itching for more.

Next morning, classic British twist – woke to horizontal rain lashing the windows. No matter; we layered up and hit South Beach, half a mile away. Windsurfing looked tempting, but with waves whipping up like they were auditioning for a disaster movie, we opted for a sturdy coastal hike instead. The path winds brilliantly, all dramatic cliffs and hidden coves, and even in the downpour, it felt alive. We ducked into a café for hot chocolate refills, plotting our next move. Weather’s the boss here, isn’t it? Forces you to adapt, turning a soggy plod into unexpected gems like spotting seals bobbing offshore.

By afternoon, it cleared just enough for Monkstone Beach, three miles out – a proper leg-burner of a walk with rock pools to poke about in. Low tide revealed a treasure trove of crabs and anemones; I spent ages failing to catch one in a bucket, feeling like a daft kid again. Self-reflection moment: holidays like this remind me I’m not as invincible as I think. That first pothole jolt? Symbolic, really – life’s full of little bumps, but they lead to views like these. Back at the apartment, drying off with cups of tea, gazing out over the waves, we felt utterly content.

We saved Manorbier for the last day, 5.5 miles along rugged paths – surfing haven, they say, but we stuck to hiking, wind tousling our hair as clouds raced overhead. Plans shifted with every squall, from beach bums to hill wanderers, but that’s the joy of it. Pembrokeshire doesn’t do predictable; it does unforgettable. If you’re after walks that weave through whims of weather, this is your spot. We left knackered, grinning, already plotting a return.
