About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Tenby – we’d packed the car to the gills with kids’ beach toys, cool bags stuffed with picnic sarnies, and enough crisps to siege a castle. Halfway through Carmarthenshire, the sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly, directing us down a narrow lane that looked more like a sheep track than a road. There we were, inching along with brambles scratching the sides, me muttering under my breath while the other half stifled giggles. “Typical us,” I thought, “can’t even arrive without a mini-adventure.” But as we finally emerged onto the main drag into Tenby, hearts lifted – the sea air hit us like a promise of lazy days ahead.

Pulling up to this cracking duplex apartment in the thick of it all, right in Tenby’s buzzy heart, I was buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation. You know the feeling? That mix of “will it live up to the pics?” and “please let there be a decent kettle.” Stepping through the private entrance and up the stairs to the first-floor sitting room, with its massive bay window overlooking the hustle below – oh, it delivered in spades. It’s got this lovely coastal vibe, all fresh and inviting, kitted out to a top-notch standard without feeling fussy. Shops, cracking eateries, and pubs literally on the doorstep, and those wide sandy beaches just a few minutes’ stroll away. First impressions? Spot on – we dumped the bags and cracked open a brew, grinning like loons at our luxurious little base in this historic walled town.

The next few days were pure family bliss, the sort of relaxed break where chaos meets charm. Mornings kicked off with brekkie in the sitting room, watching Tenby wake up – folk nipping to the bakery, dogs on leads, the world trundling by. We’d amble down to the harbour, kids paddling in rock pools at low tide, hunting for crabs while we munched fish and chips from a harbourside stall. Simple pleasures, innit? No grand plans, just that easy rhythm. Afternoons meant sprawling on the beaches – Tenby’s North or South, with their golden stretches and gentle waves perfect for building epic sandcastles that inevitably toppled in a fit of laughter.

Of course, cottage life chaos crept in, as it does. One evening, the little ones turned the kitchen into a flour bomb zone attempting Welsh cakes – flour everywhere, but we scoffed the lot anyway, sticky faces and all. Another day, a sudden squall had us dashing back from Castle Beach, drenched and howling, collapsing in the apartment for board games and hot chocolate. It was during one of those rainy afternoons, staring out that bay window as the clouds rolled over Caldey Island in the distance, that I had a quiet moment of self-reflection. Life back home’s a whirlwind of school runs and deadlines, but here? It stripped it all back to what matters – soggy hugs, daft stories, and no rush. Made me appreciate how these getaways recharge the batteries.

Evenings wrapped up with pub grub at a cosy spot nearby – think hearty pies or fresh seafood – then back for telly and early nights. Tenby’s got that magic: vibrant yet chilled, with everything you need on tap. We left knackered but glowing, already plotting a return. If you’re after a family holiday blending luxury with proper seaside mayhem, this Pembrokeshire gem’s the ticket. Proper belter of a stay.
