Ideally situated on Carmarthen Bay along the glorious Pembrokeshire coast, lively harbour town Tenby is surrounded by medieval walls. It features a maze of cobbled streets, independent shops, tea rooms, and restaurants, plus a Blue Flag sandy beach popular with watersports enthusiasts. About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Tenby – we’d packed the car to bursting with kids’ beach gear, cool bags stuffed with snacks, and that nagging sense of holiday excitement bubbling up. But about halfway through Carmarthenshire, disaster struck: the sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly and rerouted us down some winding back lane that looked more like a sheep track. Cue mild panic, the kids chanting “Are we there yet?” from the back, and me pretending I knew exactly where we were. Half an hour later, we emerged, laughing it off, hearts racing with that proper arrival buzz. As we rolled into Tenby’s seaside charm, those pastel harbour houses and salty sea air hit us like a warm welcome. Couldn’t wait to unpack and dive in.

Pulling up to our spot, first impressions were spot on – this ground-floor apartment tucked in the heart of Tenby felt like an instant hug. Contemporary but cosy, perfect for our family of four, with that light, airy living-dining room begging us to flop down after a day out. We dumped the sandy buckets and spades by the door (pro tip: always have a towel handy for that), sank into the sumptuous sofa, and fired up the Smart TV for a bit of Strictly catch-up. Kitchen was a dream too – electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, and a dishwasher that basically became my best mate. No faffing with washing up while on holiday? Yes please.

Our days slipped into this blissful rhythm of simple pleasures and cottage-life chaos. Mornings kicked off with brekkie at the harbour, scoffing bacon butties while watching fishing boats bob about, then a short stroll to Tenby’s South Beach. The kids built epic sandcastles, I paddled in the shallows pretending not to squeal at the cold waves, and we all chased each other with ice creams from the promenade stalls. One afternoon, we wandered up to Castle Hill – those medieval walls give such a magical vibe, peering out over the bay with gulls wheeling overhead. Laughter echoed as little one tried (and failed) to outrun the incoming tide, soaking us all in the process.

Evenings were pure unwind: barbecues on the little patio with local fish and chips, or lazy suppers in, the dishwasher humming away while we played board games amid crumbs and giggles. There was this one hilarious moment when the youngest decided the sofa was a trampoline – cue cushions flying and me channeling my inner dad-dancer to restore order. Looking back, it got me reflecting: in the rush of everyday life, we forget how these unhurried days recharge the soul. No grand plans, just family, sea, and sun – the kind of holiday that sticks.

Tenby’s got that effortless magic for a relaxed family break. We left with sandy toes, full bellies, and promises to return. If you’re after coastal bliss without the hassle, this is your spot.
