About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Pembrokeshire – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the motorway turned into a comedy of errors when we hit a cheeky diversion sign just past Carmarthen. Sat-nav lost its marbles, barking orders to turn down what looked like a farmer’s private track, and before you know it, we’re bumping along a narrow lane with hedges clawing at the car like they were auditioning for a horror flick. The kids in the back were chanting “Are we there yet?” on loop, and I’m there sweating, convinced we’d end up in someone’s cow field. But hey, that’s half the fun of a Welsh getaway, right? Builds the anticipation.

By the time we finally spotted the turning into the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, my heart was racing with that proper holiday buzz – you know, the one where you imagine cosy evenings and epic walks ahead. Pulling onto the generous off-road parking felt like a triumph; no scrabbling for spaces like in some tatty caravan site. We tumbled out, legs like jelly, and let the dog go mental dashing across the spacious lawn. She’s not the most graceful mutt, bless her, and promptly face-planted into a patch of damp grass, which had us all in stitches.

First impressions? Blimey, they hit like a warm hug. This tastefully-presented home is nestled right in that serene countryside landscape, all peaceful and inviting, the perfect base for our big family rabble. Before we’d even crossed the threshold, eyes locked on the hot tub – steaming away like it was waiting just for us. Couldn’t resist a quick dip, clothes and all, while the others wrestled bags from the boot. Pure tranquility, that first bubbly soak, staring out at the lake opposite with its shifting blues under the clouds. It was like the chaos of the journey melted away in one go.

Inside, it’s spot on for a gang like ours. The well-equipped kitchen had everything the self-appointed chef (me, obviously) could dream of – proper knives that didn’t wobble like my Nan’s old set, and space to chop without elbows in faces. While a stew bubbled away, we curled up in the snug, away from the unpacking mayhem. I had a moment there, glass of wine in hand, gazing at that lake view and thinking, “You daft sod, why don’t we do this more often?” Life’s too short for endless scrolling; this is proper recharging.

We didn’t stray far that first evening – just a gentle stroll around the nearby paths, breathing in that crisp coastal air you only get here. Spotted a heron by the water, and the kids were mesmerised. No grand plans, just settling in, laughing about the drive, and toasting to mishaps that make the best stories. If you’re after an idyllic spot for friends or family in Pembrokeshire, this is it – hassle-free arrival (post-diversion!), furry-friend heaven, and first impressions that stick. Can’t wait to go back.
