About Pembrokeshire
I’ll never forget the drive down to Pembrokeshire – what was meant to be a straightforward jaunt from Carmarthen turned into a comedy of errors thanks to Sat Nav’s sudden rebellion. There we were, me, my other half, and a boot stuffed with enough picnic gear for a small army, when the thing decided to route us through some narrow lane that felt more like a sheep’s personal runway. We ended up doing a three-point turn in a puddle the size of a pond, with a farmer eyeing us suspiciously from his tractor. “Are we lost already?” I laughed, wiping rain from the windscreen, but secretly wondering if this was a sign to turn back for the sofa.

By the time we finally spotted the turning for Kilgetty, I was buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation – you know, the bit where you imagine lazy mornings with sea views and not a care in the world. Pulling up to our pod, though, it was straight into more chaos. The gravel crunched under the tyres like it was auditioning for a gravel band, and as I hopped out to punch in the keycode, my wellies slipped on the wet grass. Down I went, landing bum-first in a flowerbed. Cue hysterical giggling from the car and me emerging like a muddy scarecrow, declaring, “Welcome to paradise!”

But honestly, once we’d brushed off the dirt and stepped inside, it was love at first sight. These little pods are just the ticket – cosy, modern hideaways with that perfect Scandi vibe, all clean lines and snuggly vibes without any faff. Ours had a massive window framing the rolling fields, and the first impression? Pure bliss. We dumped the bags and cracked open a bottle of local Crafty Devil cider (grabbed from the Kilgetty shop on the way), toasting our survival. The setup was spot on: compact kitchenette gleaming, comfy bed begging for a nap, and a cheeky wood burner ready to fend off any Welsh drizzle.

That first afternoon, we wandered just down the lane to Kilgetty’s quiet beaches – think pebbly shores and gentle waves lapping at your feet, with gulls overhead putting on a show. We paddled about, dodging rock pools teeming with crabs (I nearly stepped on one and did a ridiculous hop-skip), then headed back for a fry-up using the pod’s hob. Evening brought a stroll to the nearby Kingsmoor Common, where the sunset painted everything golden – proper magical, that. Sat outside with mugs of tea, watching the world go by, I had one of those quiet moments: holidays like this remind you how daft it is to get wound up over work stress when there’s this on your doorstep. Me, slipping in mud? Worth it for the reset.

Next morning, more pod perfection – brewed coffee in bed, then a short hop to Amroth’s sandy stretch for fossil hunting. Found a few treasures, got sand everywhere (classic me), and laughed about the arrival farce over fish and chips from the local takeaway. These pods make it so easy to just unwind, no grand plans needed. If you’re after a Pembrokeshire escape that feels like a warm hug, this is it. Mud and all, we didn’t want to leave.
