About Saundersfoot
I’ll never forget the drive down to Saundersfoot – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from Carmarthen turned into a proper comedy of errors. Sat-nav decided to play silly buggers, rerouting us through some narrow lanes that had me white-knuckling the wheel, convinced we’d end up in someone’s hedge. Then, just as we neared the village, a rogue seagull dive-bombed the windscreen, leaving us splattered and giggling like kids. By the time we pulled into the designated parking spot, we were frazzled but buzzing with that holiday anticipation – you know, the kind where you’re half-expecting golden sands and fish and chips to materialise instantly.

Stepping out, the sea air hit us like a tonic, carrying that salty tang mixed with the faint whiff of chip shops from the high street. We hauled our bags up to this cracking contemporary first-floor apartment, and honestly, the first impressions were spot on. Peering through the door, there it was: an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining space that screamed cosy self-catering heaven. The views from the private balcony over the peaceful gardens and that cheeky sea glimpse across the bay? Pure magic. We dumped the luggage and cracked open a brew, hearts settling as the chaos of the journey melted away.

That first evening, we barely moved. Whipped up some pasta in the fully-fitted kitchen – nothing fancy, but it tasted brilliant with the windows flung wide, letting in the sound of waves lapping the shore below. Cosied up on the sofa in front of the telly, feet up, we recapped the day’s daftness. I caught myself thinking, blimey, how often do we rush through life without these proper pauses? It was a gentle nudge – maybe I need more of this slowing down malarkey.

Next morning, we wandered down to Saundersfoot beach, a five-minute stroll, golden sands stretching out under that big Pembrokeshire sky. Paddled in the shallows, built a rubbish sandcastle that collapsed hilariously, then grabbed pasties from a beachside van. The village buzzed gently – families on the prom, dogs chasing balls, and those donkey rides plodding along. Afternoon saw us tackling the coastal path towards Coppet Hall beach, just a mile or so along, puffing up the cliffs for panoramas that made the earlier mishaps feel like a distant joke. Spotted seals bobbing in the bay, which had the kids (well, my mates acting like kids) whooping.

Evenings were balcony time – barbie on, watching the sun dip over the water, chatting rubbish about nothing. One night, a light drizzle rolled in, typical Welsh weather, but we didn’t care; retreated inside to board games around the dining table, laughter echoing. It struck me then, in a quiet moment, how these little getaways recharge the batteries. No grand plans, just good company and a cracking base that felt like home from the off.

Saundersfoot worked its charm – that messy arrival only made the rest sweeter. If you’re after a seaside bolt-hole for a small crew, this spot’s a gem. We left knackered but grinning, already plotting a return.
