About Saundersfoot
By the time we rolled into the village, hearts racing and tempers a tad frayed, the sun was dipping low over the bay, painting everything golden. Saundersfoot’s got that instant charm – colourful beach huts lining the shore, families strolling the promenade with ice creams dripping faster than my patience had that afternoon. We finally spotted the property, a cosy modern cabin tucked just on the edge of things, all clean lines and welcoming vibes with a little deck overlooking the rooftops towards the sea. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. After the road rage saga, stepping inside felt like a hug from an old mate – spacious open-plan living area with squishy sofas begging for a collapse, and a kitchen that screamed “cook something daft tonight.” We dumped the bags and cracked open a bottle of fizz on the deck, watching the tide roll in over Coppet Hill. The air was that perfect salty tang, laced with fish and chips from the beachfront stalls. Kids bolted out to explore the garden patch, discovering a barbecue we’d totally overlooked in the rush. Laughing about the drive, I had one of those moments – you know, when you realise holidays aren’t about flawless plans but the daft bits that stick. Here I was, knackered from faffing about in the car, yet grinning like an idiot at the view. Why do I always pack like I’m moving house? Lightened my load right there, mentally binning half the unnecessary tat. Next morning, chaos forgotten, we wandered down to the beach – Saundersfoot’s sandy stretch is a belter, gentle waves perfect for paddling without getting swept off. Built a sandcastle that rivalled anything royal, then hit the harbour for crab fishing off the wall. Caught a couple of mini monsters (released, obviously – I’m not eating Pinchy the crustacean). Lunch was pasties from the local bakery, devoured on the beach while spotting seals bobbing about. Afternoon? A gentle cliff walk along the coastal path towards Sunnybank, wind in our hair, stopping for cream teas at a tearoom with views that make you forget the world. Evenings were pure bliss – barbie on, fairy lights twinkling, sharing stories as the sun set. One night, we joined a beach singalong by the lifeboat station; locals with guitars, everyone belting out sea shanties. Felt like we’d slotted right in. That cabin was our perfect base – quiet enough to unwind, close enough for impromptu jaunts. Left feeling recharged, with a vow to ditch the sat-nav next time. Saundersfoot, you sneaky gem, you’ve got me hooked. Can’t wait for round two. |
