About Snowdonia
I’ll never forget the drive to Barmouth last month – we’d been buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation, you know, the kind where you’ve got the playlist sorted and snacks at the ready. But about halfway there, just past Dolgellau, the sat nav decided to have a funny turn and sent us down this narrow lane that looked more like a sheep’s personal runway. We ended up in a dead end with a farmer giving us the side-eye, and I swear my other half was this close to staging a mutiny. A quick U-turn and a shared giggle later, we were back on track, rolling into town just as the sun dipped low over the estuary.

Pulling up to our ground-floor apartment, right in the heart of bustling Barmouth, we were chuffed to bits. It’s this stylish spot with contemporary vibes – think plush brushed velvet sofa begging you to sink in, a smart TV primed for Netflix marathons, and a kitchen kitted out with everything you’d need for lazy suppers. The king-size bedroom was a dream for cosy cuddles, and that gleaming shower room? Pure bliss after a day of doing, well, not much at all. First impressions? Spot on – it felt like instant home, with the sea air wafting in and the promenade just a stroll away.

We’d planned this getaway to Snowdonia for the big adventures – hikes up Cadair Idris or whatever – but honestly, the joy was in doing sweet nothing. Mornings kicked off with brekkie in the little garden area out back, me nursing a coffee while the missus flicked through a dog-eared novel she’d brought along. No rush, no agenda. We’d potter out for a gentle amble along the beach, toes in the sand, watching families build wonky castles and dogs chase waves. Barmouth’s got that perfect seaside hum – chip shops frying up batter, ice cream vans tinkling – but we’d nab a bench, scoff a 99, and just sit, letting the world tick by.

Afternoons were for reclaiming the sofa. I’d sprawl out with a thriller I’d been meaning to read for ages, while she binge-watched some period drama, pausing only to debate plot twists over tea and biscuits. The garden became our private haven too – we’d drag out chairs, crack open a bottle of wine, and watch the light fade over the hills. No grand plans, just that delicious slowness that makes you realise how knackered everyday life leaves you. One evening, as the sun set all pink and gold, I caught myself thinking, ‘Blimey, when did I last properly switch off like this?’ It was one of those gentle nudges – holidays like this aren’t about ticking boxes; they’re about remembering to breathe.

By the end of the week, we’d barely scratched Snowdonia’s wild side, but who cared? We left feeling recharged, already plotting a return for more of the same. If you’re after a spot to truly unwind with your favourite person, Barmouth’s coastal charm and a pad like this is pure magic.
