About Snowdonia
I’ll never forget the drive to our holiday spot in Tal-Y-Bont, right in the heart of Eryri National Park. We’d piled into the car back in Manchester full of excitement, kids buzzing about the beach and me dreaming of kicking back with a cuppa. But about halfway through the winding lanes towards Gwynedd, disaster struck – or rather, the sat-nav did. It decided to send us on a scenic detour down what felt like a sheep track, complete with a flock blocking the way and me frantically reversing into a hedge while the other half yelled directions from Google Maps. “Left here, no, your other left!” We emerged laughing, a bit muddy, but with that proper holiday spirit ignited.

By the time we rolled into the coastal village, the sun was dipping low over the hills, painting everything golden. Spotting the detached house just off the road, my heart lifted – it looked ever so welcoming, nestled close enough to the sea that you could almost hear the waves. We’d been anticipating this for weeks, picturing lazy beach days and cosy evenings in, and pulling up, it didn’t disappoint. The place is spacious and charming, the sort of home that wraps you up like a favourite jumper. Unloading the car was another comedy of errors – the boot jammed with beach gear, one bag split open spilling crisps everywhere, and the dog deciding it was playtime right there on the gravel. But stepping inside? Pure magic.

The kitchen/diner hit us first, all bright and inviting with a massive formal dining table against this cracking accent wall that just draws you in. It’s got every gadget you could need for knocking up a family feast – we were straight in there rustling up fish and chips from the local shop, the Smart TV flickering with some rubbish quiz show to keep the kids happy. We gathered round that table for our first meal, proper plates clattering, everyone chattering over the day’s chaos. Honestly, it felt like home already, miles better than any hotel lobby.

That first evening, we wandered the short path to the beach – it’s literally minutes away, sand and surf under those dramatic Snowdonia skies. The kids paddled while we watched the tide roll in, then back to the hot tub bubbling away in the garden. Sinking into that warm water as the stars popped out? Bliss. I had a quiet moment there, bubbles fizzing around me, reflecting on how these little mishaps – the lost sat-nav, the spilled crisps – are what make holidays memorable. Life’s too short for perfect plans; it’s the daft bits that stick.

We’ve since explored the nearby coastal paths, nipped to the village pub for a pint, and even spotted seals bobbing offshore. But it’s this house that’s the star – detached, roomy, and perfectly placed for unwinding. If you’re after a family getaway in Snowdonia that feels effortless despite the arrival pandemonium, this is it. Can’t wait to go back.
