About Snowdonia
I’ll never forget the drive up to Snowdonia – we’d packed the car to the brim with crisps, books, and enough wine to sink a ship, only for the sat-nav to chuck us onto some winding back lane that looked like it hadn’t seen a car since the war. There I was, white-knuckling the wheel as a cheeky sheep decided to photobomb our progress, staring us down like we were intruders. Half an hour late and cursing my optimism about “scenic routes”, we finally pulled up, hearts racing a bit, but oh, what a payoff. Those first glimpses of the sea views towards the Llyn Peninsula hit like a warm hug – misty mountains rolling down to the coast, and the property just nestling there, all welcoming and period-charm with smart modern tweaks that made it feel like home straight away.

It’s a beauty of a place, perfect for our little crew – me, the other half, our two lads, and the dog, who’d been promised “well-behaved” status (fingers crossed). Spacious enough for a family or mates, with five bedrooms spread over the floors: plush doubles with en-suites, even a family room with a king and bunks so the kids could crash without a fuss. But honestly? We barely left the ground floor. The joy of it all was doing precisely nothing, and loving every lazy second.

First morning, I cracked open my book on the enclosed terrace – that garden setup is pure bliss, views stretching out forever while you sip coffee in the hot tub. No itinerary, no rush; just the sound of waves in the distance and the dog snoring at my feet. We’d wander out for a gentle stroll along Harlech’s beach maybe once a day, toes in the sand, picking up chips from the local spot, but mostly it was terrace lounging. Afternoons melted into pool games in the games room – me versus the boys, trash-talking over missed shots, laughter echoing like we owned the place. Evenings? Cosy up in the lounge with the log burner crackling on chillier nights (it was a proper Welsh welcome, that drizzle), or fling open the patio doors when the sun peeked out. The open-plan kitchen was a dream for chucking together simple suppers – pasta, salads, nothing fancy – with a utility room to hide the muddy wellies.

I had this moment, sprawled in a chair with a glass in hand, watching the sun dip behind the hills, thinking: when did I last just *stop*? Life’s all go-go-go back home, emails pinging, deadlines looming. Here, time stretched out lazy as a cat in the sun. No hikes up Yr Wyddfa or epic adventures – though we could’ve, with Snowdonia right there – just reading forgotten novels, napping in the garden, hot tub bubbles working their magic. The other half nailed it: “This is what holidays are for, innit? Switching off.” And he was right. We left fatter, happier, and plotting our return. If you fancy slowing right down amid those epic views, this is your spot. Pure, unadulterated chill.
