About Snowdonia
I’ll never forget the drive to Talybont – we’d packed the car to the brim with wellies, board games, and enough snacks to feed a small army, only for the sat-nav to chuck us onto some narrow lane that felt more like a sheep’s personal runway. Halfway there, we had a proper comedy moment: a rogue lamb decided to photobomb our progress, darting right in front of the bonnet. Heart in mouth, I slammed on the brakes, and we both burst out laughing as it scampered off with a cheeky bleat. “Welcome to Wales,” my other half quipped, and just like that, the anticipation bubbled up – visions of cosy evenings and coastal walks ahead.

Pulling into the village, the first impressions were spot on. This impressive country farmhouse sat there like it was waiting just for us, with cracking sea and mountain views that made you want to drop your bags and gawp. Tucked between Barmouth and Harlech, it’s in the sweet spot – close enough to everything but tucked away for that proper getaway feel. We’d booked it for a relaxed couple’s break, but with six bedrooms (two with en-suites), a corner spa bath, massive showers, a welcoming sitting room with two wood-burners, and a slick modern kitchen blending old-school charm with new bits, it screamed family holiday heaven. And that hot tub? Game-changer. Just a ten-minute stroll to the Rural Beach Award-winning beach, it was perfect for pottering about without any faff.

First morning, we wandered down to the beach, toes in the sand, breathing in that salty Snowdonia air. It’s all shingle and waves here, ideal for a gentle amble rather than hardcore surfing – we skimmed stones and watched oystercatchers darting about, feeling miles away from the daily grind. Back at the cottage, chaos ensued in the best way: I tried whipping up a full Welsh breakfast (bacon, laverbread, the lot), but managed to set off the smoke alarm with over-enthusiastic toast. Laughing it off over tea by the wood-burner, we settled into cottage life – simple pleasures like that first splash in the hot tub under starry skies, bubbles fizzing as we chatted about nothing much.

Afternoons were for easy hikes along the coastal path towards Barmouth, puffing up gentle hills with views that stop you in your tracks – Snowdonia’s peaks looming moody in the distance, sea sparkling below. We’d pop into the village shop for local cheeses and bara brith, then flop in the sitting room with a cuppa, fire crackling. One evening, as rain pattered the windows (classic Wales), I had a quiet moment of reflection: here we were, mid-40s, no kids in tow for once, rediscovering that spark of just-us time amid the cosy clutter of mugs and muddy boots. It’s funny how a bit of rural chaos reminds you what matters – no grand plans, just good company and a cracking view.

By week’s end, we were hooked on this Talybont gem. If you fancy ditching the rush for beach rambles, hot tub soaks, and a dash of sheep-induced hilarity, it’s the spot. Proper restorative stuff.
