About Tenby
I’ll never forget the drive down to that little corner of Pembrokeshire near Tenby – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the motorway turned into a comedy of errors. We’d piled into the car loaded with beach gear, welly boots, and enough snacks to feed a small army, the sat-nav confidently directing us through winding lanes that got narrower by the mile. Then, disaster: a rogue sheep decided to stage a sit-in right in the middle of the road, staring us down like it owned the place. Cue panicked reversing into a hedge (minor scratches on the wing mirror, nothing a bit of elbow grease won’t fix), and me yelling at the kids to stop chanting “baa baa black sheep” from the back seat. By the time we spotted the off-road parking for our countryside cottage, we were all in stitches, windswept and wide-eyed, anticipation bubbling despite the chaos.

Pulling up, I felt that proper holiday buzz hit – you know, the one where everything just clicks into place? The place looked like a proper gem, tucked away in tranquil fields near Langdon, close enough to Kilgetty (just 2.2 miles) and Saundersfoot (4.4 miles) for easy jaunts but far enough to feel like our own peaceful hideaway. It’s pet-friendly too, which was a godsend with our daft Labrador in tow, tail wagging like a metronome. We tumbled out, bags everywhere, and stepped inside to this cracking kitchen/diner that screamed “home from home”. Ample space for rustling up a fry-up or a proper roast, and it had that cosy vibe perfect for a family like ours.

First impressions? Bloody brilliant – sorry, cracking brilliant. The sitting room was the star of the show: squashy leather sofas begging you to flop down with a cuppa and a book, and an electric fire in the fireplace ready to chase away any coastal chill. We dumped our stuff and immediately claimed spots, the dog curling up like he’d lived there forever. That first evening, after the sheep-induced madness, we cracked open a bottle of wine, laughed about the hedge incident, and just soaked it in. No rushing about, no neighbours peering over the fence – just us, unwinding in a spot that felt tailor-made for recharging.

Looking back, that bumpy arrival was the perfect icebreaker, wasn’t it? Made us appreciate the calm even more. We spent the next days pottering to Tenby’s harbour for fish and chips, paddling at low tide on the beach, and nipping to Saundersfoot for ice creams that dripped faster than the kids could lick. But honestly, the real magic was coming back to our little haven each night, collapsing in those sofas, feeling properly content. If you’re after a fuss-free base to explore Pembrokeshire’s gems without the tourist scrum, this is it. Can’t wait to go back – sheep permitting!
