I’ll never forget the drive down to West Wales – or rather, the comedy of errors that got me there. A quick U-turn and a sheepish laugh later, I was back on track, heart racing but buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation. What lay ahead? Sunlit fields, salty air, and a proper break from the daily grind.

Pulling into the peaceful grounds of this retreat in North Gower felt like stepping into a postcard. The joy of the next few days was in the sheer laziness of it all. Mornings started late, with me padding out to the communal gardens in slippers and a robe, mug of coffee in hand. I’d claim a sunny spot on a bench, surrounded by wildflowers and the hum of bees, and lose myself in a dog-eared paperback – some frothy crime novel that didn’t tax the brain.
